Oct M.-The rosy outlook shown In the government crop report eased prices today In the wheat market, but the effect waa offset later by purchases on the part or a leading hull. At th close wneat for December delivery was practically un changed from yesterday'a final quotations. Corn Is off fSo, oats ax down c and provisions 2t&6o- The wheat market opened with a slight show of weakness. December was un changed to a shade lower at 8T,Ho to 8f.Nf S6.o. The downward tendency was aue mainly to the failure of foreign grain mar keta to respond to th advance here yester day. Weather In the American northwest was agsin unravoranie tor the movement of tha new crop, rains having fallen In many sections. Recelnt today at Minne apolis and Duluth exhibited considerable decreasa compared with the total on th corresponding date last week and the totnl year ago. Bullish Influences, however, wer seemingly overlooked for a time. Moreover, the volume of business 'was somewhat restricted by the fact that the government crop report was to oe maoe public at noon. Meanwhile the market be came a little firmer on fair support from a prominent long, th price of the December option advancing to 86c. When the official statistics regarding the spring wneat. crop were given out the market weakened de cidedlv, December dropping to n5ifi8St',c. According to the government report the average yield of spring wheat Is 14.7 bushels an acre. The quality is estimated at 89. Iast year the average yield was 13.7 bushels an acra ana the quality 76. T. un me nu of th government figures and estimating tha total acreage at 17.811.0oi) acres the total yield of spring wheat In the United States tor ip is in trie neignrjornooa or znx.n."n bushels. On the break the market was again supported by the leading bull, as sisted by numerous shorts. Buoyed by this demand the loss was all regained, ine market closed about steady, December at ffiSe. Clearances of wheat and flour were equal to IM.ooo bushels. Primary reeelpta were 1.135.000 bushels, against 1. 463.O0O a year ago. Minneapolis. Duluth and Chicago re ported receipts of 960 cars, against 1,854 last week and 1.121 a year ago. Large yields and excellent condition of this years crop of corn, as shown by the government report, caused weakness In the corn market-here, closing quotations being practically at the lowest point of the day. Early In the session the market was quite firm as a result of a sharp advance nt Liverpool. During the first hour shorts and commission houses were actlv buyers. With the publication of the official figures concerning the new crop many of the early buyers turned sellers. The government re sort (avi the condition of corn at 89.2. oompared with 89.5 a month ago. lTslng twenty-nine bushels aa a par of yield, a condition of 89.8 on an acreage of 94.011.000 acres suggests a total yield of 2,431,800,000 bushels. Wet weather and small local re ceipts were minor bullish Influences. De cember opened a shade to 4c higher at 44i&44TIc. sold between 44Hc and 444o and closed at 44HC. Local receipts wera 244 cars, with 118 cara of contract grade. The oats market was weakened by the government report, which shows an average yield of 88.8 bushels per acre, Indicating a total crop of 939.000,000 bushels. Cash Inter ests and commission houses sold quite freelv throughout the entire session. The market closed weak, with prices at the lowest point of the day. December opened Ho higher at 28c, sold off to 4e and closed at the bot tom figure. Local receipts were 390 cara. As a result of a Sc'decllne In the price of live hogs, following liberal receipts, senti ment In the provisions market was bearish. Trading was very quiet. A feature was selling of January products by packers. At the close January pork was off 2Hc at I12.87H. Lard was down 2H6o at 86.82H Ribs were 2Hc lower at 8fi,4S. Estimated receipts for tomorrow: Wheat, 54 cars: corn, 140 cars; oata, 248 cars: hogs, 30,000 head. The leading futures ranged as follows: Articles. Open. Hlgh.l Low. Closa.l Taa'r. MOVEMENT IS IRREGULAR AND NARROW Auaoaaceaaeat atf few at Tweajty-FIra Mlllloa OrMt North oral Stock Sends that Isaac l. NEW YORK, Oct. 10,-Ther was soma perceptable relaxation In the money market today and a resulting relief from the pres sure of llnulrtatlnn on the stock market which waa In evidence yesterday. At the same tlm one or two Incidents calculated to Inspire the speculative spirit occurred. The result waa a movement towards re covery In prices. There was nothing like a revival of speculative activity, however, as shown by the practical cutting In half of the volum of transactions compared with yesterday. Except In a few closely held stocks th price movement waa narrow and sluggish. . ... The long prfvelent rumors of a melon cut ting for the Great Northern stockhold.-rs developed In the decision to Issue tfco.COo.Om of new stock, present stockholders to be allowed to aubeorlbe at par to the extent of 20 per cent of their holdings. Probably a thousand rumors have circulated as the outcomlng benefit to the stockholders of this company, but none of them proved to have been entirely accurate. The announce ment seemed unexpected at Just this time and the pHc of tha stock was rushed up over 4 points during the first hour. In the curb market a quotation was established for the subscription rights by sales at 35 (637. The stock waa also helped by the statement of gross earnings reported for September, which reached 84.955. fiftl, an in crease over the previous year of fl 067.8M. The declaration of the Initial dividend on the common stock of the I'nlted States Cast Iron Pipe company was an Influence on a number of low priced Industrial stocks In the same way aa the recent Increase In the dividend of the Railway Spring stock. The call money rate yielded rather de cisively below 6 per cent today for the first time since last week's flurry. At the same time sentiment over the money outlook was Improved In London. This latter de velopment seemed to be due largely to the report that the Bank of France had re linquished 85,000,000 In gold to be shipped to Egypt, relieving by that much the require ment In the London market. The foreign exchange market here was firm again In response to the easier ton of the money market, but there was a general belief that the relaxation In money Is due largely to yesterday'a liquidation of special accounts In stocks. Deposits on New Tork tax pay ment are a factor and liquidation In ootton Is also believed to have afforded relief to the money market. The quiet tone of money la felt to be dependent at present on the quietude of speculation. This belief had an effect In restraining any activity In the stock market. The government reports confirmed the confidence In the favorable outcome In the oats crop and helped to the strong undertone of stocks. Soma atten tion waa attracted by reports of the extent to which the congestion of freight threatens to embarrass grain and flour exporters here owing to their large contracts for de livery on the other side with engagement of freight room on steamships and purch ases in the west already made. The day'a extreme rise In stocks was not all held un til the closing owing to the profit-taking movement In the last hour and the closing tone was Irregular. Bonds were stesdy. For the two days this week the receipts amount to 640 cars as against 734 for the corresponding davs of lust week, and 6u0 pars for the Seuiia time laat year. While the totp.l number of cattle In the yards this more lng was quite slseable there did not appear to be any great number of beef steers, elcher corn-feds or westerns, on sale. At the same time there was a verv fair demand which resulted In the trade belni: rcatonably active at prices that were strong as compared with yesterday. The most of the desirable killers changed hands In very good season in the morning. There was a fair showing of cows and heifers yesterday and again today, but the total waa small as compared with the same days last week. At the same time the de mand was fully as good aa last week which resulted in some little Improvement taking place in the market today. The trade as a whole might be described as strong to 10c higher. The market opened ln reasonable season and midday the big end of the receipts had changed hands. There were plenty-of feedors hera today. In the first place the fresh receipts wera quite large and in addition to them there were a number of cattle still In the hands of speculators, yesterday having, been a bad day for them to unload. Still everyone ap peared to be anticipating a good trade for the remainder of the week and speculators were quite free buyers, especially of the good kinds which were steady with yester day. The common to medium kinds wero not so much sought after, but still the market as a whole was In fair shape and the most of the cattle changed hands In reasonable season.
