The Montreal Trade Bulletin says: "If
the New York Evening Post places any

For the first time In several weeks- the
market today showed a strong undertone
Independent of support from a bull leader
who has of late been a conspicuous buyer.
Throurhout the whole session values had
sn upaard tendency. At the opening, Dec
ember waa up Hfi'He to He at 4e to M7U
Hoc. Commission honses and shorts were
persistent buyers. While there was heavy
realising at timet, the offerings were easily
absorbed. Export news waa apparently the
most powerful factor In the situation. The
fact that Germany haa been buying Ameri
can wheat the pest few days seemed the
pivotal point around which revolved all
other Influences. Considerable attention
wan given a report by an eminent English
statistician regarding the world's supply
of breadstuff as affected by the situation
In Oermany. According to this authority
Oermany Is buying unexpectedly large
quantities of foreign wheat, supposedly for
Immediate consumption. "This may be
taken as a sign,'' says the statistician,
"that the Oerman cropa of wheat and rye
are even worse than had been anticipated
and that a larger requirement for foreign
wheat than at first thought exists. Further
confirmation Improved demand for wheat
for export wss received in dispatches from
Duluth and Winnipeg. Numerous sales al
'so of flour for export were said to have
been made by country mills northwest.
For December wheat the highest point of
the day was reached at SS4c The market
closed strong with December at Kole Ex
ports fcr the week as rhown by Bradstreeis,
were equal to 1.073.110 bushels. Minneapolis.
Duluth and Chicago reported receipts of
819 cart against 990 cars laat week and 927
cars a year ago.
Notwithstanding Ideal weather for the

and the determination seemed to be reached
to await more definite outcome of the
money situation. The rate for call loans
did not rise to the high level of yesterdav,
but the average rate at which call money
was placed was above that of yesterday.
Some of the trust companies were reported
to he calling loans and this gave the Im
pression that these Institutions had about
reached the limit of their ability to relieve
borrowers from the hanks hv transfer of
loana, a process which has gone on steadily
for several weeks past. This being the case
and with the depletion of bank reserve still
uninterrupted, an actual contraction of
credits would be Indicated for the Imme
dlate future, rather than the shifting about
of accommodations to enable the bank to
preaerve the semblance of a surplus which
has rone on ud to this time. The proba
bility of a weak hank return tomorrow also
came In for consideration. There Is the
chance that the readjustment of the Incon
gruities presented In last week's bank state
ment may threw over some of the poor re
sults of last week's banking operations Into
this week's statement This aiay affect the
showing of loan Items, which the calling of
loans during the week would naturally tend

The preasure has Increased rapidly over
the lake region. Ohio valley and eastern
states, and is nights everywhere over the
south and southwest. The weather Is
much cooler in the lake region and east to
tbe upper Atlantic coast. An area of de
cidedly low pressure has developed on the
North Pacific coast and extends over the
northwest and extreme upper valleys, caus
ing a decMed rise in temperature through
out those sections, and generally warmer
weather throughout the west. The weather
will continue fair and warm throughout

CATTLE After the big runs this week
the sixty-five cars reported In this morning
looked very small. Even with today's light
receipts the total for the week so far foots
up over 1.800 cars, making this the biff
weea or me season to date.
There- were practically no beef steers on
sale this morning, in fact It was hard work
to find a full load of either grassers or fed
steers mat would ao lor killers. The feel
ing was that a right good bunch of killers
would bring at least steady prices and pos
sibly strong.
Cows snd heifers constituted a consid
erable proportion of the receipts, there be
ing fifteen or elrhteen cars of that kind of
rattle In the yards. The market did not
show any very material change In any
direction, prices for the most part being
Just about steady with yesterday. There
was a fair demand for this time of the
week and the most desirable of the offer
ings changed hands in reasonable season
The most of the cattle in this morning
were stockers and feeders, but the demand
was If anything better than usual this late
In the week and prices held up in good
snape, aesiracie Kinas oeing jusx anou
steady with yesterday. The market thi
week has been In very fair condition. The
country has bought freely, so that the sup
ply, though It has been tne largest or tne
season so far. has been kept well cleaned
up. Prices on the desirable kinds have re
mained lust about steady, while the me
dium grades are probably a little lower,
