PORTER TURNS UP LIFELESS
Frank Flats to Foand Dead la Saloon
Where Ho Had Been
Employed.
Frank Flala, who was employed for a
week as porter In tho saloon of Anton
Krecek, 1103 South Sixth street, was found
dead Monday morning by Joseph Nacht-
pchl. bartender. Flala was lying In 'the
rear of tho saloon. Ho was last seen alive
at midnight, when ho waa left sleeping
by Krecek. Coroner Bratley has taken
charge of the body and probably wilt hold
anv Inquest."
Flala waa given a week's wages Sunday
morning by Krecek. Flala then went to
the Willow Springs brewery and returned
to the Krecek saloon at 10 o'clock In the
evening In a very sick condition. It Is re
ported. "Boon after Flala returned to the saloon
and took a chair behind the stove I no
ticed the waa 111. I then telephoned thi
police station for a doctor, but as Flala
went to sleep It was believed he would
sleep off what I thought might be a drunk.
I left the man apparently sleeping at 13
o'clock Sunday night," stated Kraoek.
Flala, who was about 35 years of age
and married, is said to have been given
to tho drug habit, taking cocaine habi
tually. He had only one arm. His wife
cannot bo located, although It ia believed
she lives In Omaha.
Flala's career was a pathetic ona. Ha
had run tho gamut of misfortune and
gone from a very prominent place among
a large circle of friends to ono of humblest
oblivion. Some years ago, possessed of a."
powerful physique, ho was among tho
best athletes In tho country. Indeed, at
national Bohemian turners' meet In Mil
waukee once he captured second plaoo for
all-round work. Flala was a pressman for
tho World-Herald and In the machinery of
a press ho lost ono arm. Frbm that time
on his course in life tended downward
under tho tremendous pressure of sheer ad
versity. His friends attributed his later
habits to grief and despondency over hi
sad fate.
Of Frank Flala, dead In tho roar of a
saloon of which ha was porter, there Is
many a man of high etatlon tn Omaha to
speak a good word.
