PROPHET OF AMERICAN ART Illinois Farmer Who Paints Cora So Real Horses Eat Canvases la In Omaha. The private offices of Superintendent Davidson looked like a combination of the agricultural hall and live stock pavilions at a county fair Thursday morning. The transformation was brought about by A. Montgomery, the prophet of American art. In a few minutes. Mr. Montgomery simply undid a few bundles of paintings of corn and sheep and placed them around the room. A, Montgomery Is the Bloomlngton (111.) farmer who broke Into esthetic cir cles in Chicago and other towns through the medium of corn. He painted corn so lifelike that horses tried to eat his can vases. The leaders of Chicago "aht" took hlin up and he became tagged as the genius of a new school of painting, the disciple of poetry that is kerneled in the corncob. After a prominent monthly magaslne de voted two pages to a satire on the subject Chicago "aht" sat down hard, but A. Montgomery survived. He has Just reached Omaha after a 7,000-mlla Journey through the west In search of material for his brush. He says he found Just one scene worth while a bunch of iheep In Montana with mountains In the background. The prophet Is an old acquaintance of Su perintendent Davidson's. One of Mr. Montgomery's pictures Is In the Llnlnger art gallery and It is valued highly by Mr. Llnlnger. Another la owned by 8. A. McWhorter.
