CANTILLON CANNOT STAND DCFEAT TI.Hors' Manager Akam t'nsatr Carothers, Who flail. Afler Tlrat Gam aad fends Rafflaa Off Ground. Just to aatlafr the ,000 fan who hud turned ot to wKnfM tha double-headir at Vinton street park Sunday afternoon the Champs took both names from the league leader, the flrat name bjr the score of I to I and the second by the score of 6 to I. Doth itmei were filled with lively Incident from start to finish. Hall and Chappelle were the oppoalnf alabmen at the opening of the first game, but the Champa secured three hlta In each of the first two Innln ao thai Wolfe, who had been catching, waa put In to pitch out a game that waa auppoaed to be loat. Mall held the fndrrwritera without a hit In the flrat Inning, gava'them four hlta with three talllea In the second and then ahut them out without a hit or run In the third, when he waa forced to retire with an Injured shoulder caused by a collision at first. The n of Hall will make the t-am ihort for the balance of the De Molnea aeries, for Pfelster la out of the game also, being slightly Indisposed. Rourke haa aeeured Kelly, another find from Grand Inland, the town which haa turned out aome good one, and he will report today, which may help out aome. Omaha Makes Tvro la First. Omaha made two runs In the flrat Inn'ng by hitting the ball. Thlel singled and Car ter bunted safe. Polnn sacrificed them on a, notch and Welch scored them both with a single to right. In the second Qondlng walked and Ilnll singled. Thlel was given ft life on Hoggle'a error and Carter's sin gle ecorrd Hall. Oondlng having coma home on Huggle'a error. Dolan bunted safe, acorlng Thlel, and Welch hit a high no to MrQiivray, Carter scoring on the throw. Two more were added In the third and another In the sixth, at which Manager Cantlllon of Pea Molnea, a poor loser and coarse bluffer, waa ordered from the ground for abualve language to the umpire. Omaha made two faat double pl.ivs In the first game and 'Otherwise fielded well In spite of the error column. Quick and Manske were sent In to do the honors for the second game and It looked for a time as If the honors would be with Mr. Manske, for he did not give a Chump a sign of a hit until the sixth Inning, when they Jumped on him for fair. Des Moines had made a tally In the second Inning when McQiivray singled, went to second on a passed baH and scored on McNlchols' sin He. Eddie lawler'a Doable. Thlel started the great sixth inning by striking out. Carter hit one that Mc Nlchols Juggled and Dolan singled. Welch hit a' hard drive to the right field fence . that looked lllee It would do the business, but McQiivray extended that elongated form of his against the Illinois Central sign and pulled It down with his gloved mitt. Bchlpke waa hit by a pitched ball, which filled the base with two out. Thomas stepped Into the breach with a single which cored Carter and Dolan and then Eddie Lawler, who played a great game, brought Bchlpke and Thomas home by a double to left Dea Molnea made two more In the sev enth Inning on a hit, a base on balls and two errors. One more waa made by the Underwriters In the eighth, which tied the core. Hogrelver hit one that Skipper Bill could not handle, went to second on Long's out and scored on Rossman's single, which came near to scalping Quick. Dolan led off with a single In the eighth and waa sacrificed to second by Welch. Bchlpke hit one to McNlchols which the latter could not handle, Dolan coming home on the play, but Bchlpke went out at sec ond when Thomas hit the ball to the pitcher. Thomas stole second and Lawler hit for a single, which scored Thomaa, making Omaha two to the good, which was the score when the game ended. Caatlllon'a Iloodlamlaiu. A most regrettable feature of yestrr day'a proceedings at Vinton street park was the resignation of Bobby Caruthcrs as umpire at the close of the flrat game. He wai urged to' continue, but said he could not stand the vile abuse heuped on mm by Manager Mike Cantlllon of the Des .Molnea team. Caruthera put Cantll lon off the bench about the middle, of the game on account of the continued stream of profanity and obscenity that was flow ing from the Dos Moines manager. As he walked off the field Cantlllon applied the vilest epithets In his vocabulary to the umpire and threatened In moat scurrilous of obscene language. Manager Rourko urged Caruthera to stay and umpire the second game, promising him protection In the discharge of his duties, but Bobby said ho would not continue In tho employ of a league In which such a man could hold his position us manager. Cantlllon was vigorously hissed from the grandstand when put off the flold, but seemed to enjoy the notoriety he had achieved. His departure from Omaha, this evening will be little regretted, for he has really done the game great harm by his antics since he became a manager. He Is the only manager who comes to Omaha who Is thoroughly detested by the putrons of the game. b Today will be ladles' day and also the last game of this series on the home grounds. IT.-After an eleven-Inning battle royal at Broadway park between Denver and Slnux City today, Roy Hartzell, who won Saturday's con test with his timely hit. put In another bid for glory by pounding out the safe drive which sent Catcher Brown home with the winning run. In the seventh Inning, with Denver two runs behind. Hn.rti.-ll cleared the bases and tied the score with a two-bagger. It was a splendid struggle, and Pitcher George Engle deserves equal credit with Hartxell. By his own request Engle, who pitched a full game Saturday, worked again and was as strong In the eleventh inning as in the first. He allowed the Parkers but four hits, scattered through as many Innings, and their only runs were secured in the first on Perrlne'a error and Weed's home run drive. The game was enlivened by a wordy war betwee.1 1'mplre Mace and Shortstop Newton of Sioux City, which threatened to develop Into a fist fight. The trouble occurred in the third inning, when Mellalo slid around Newton at second and was declared safe. Newton made a few re marks to the umpire and Mace finally or dered Manager Carney to have Newton re moved without further delay. Score: DENVER. glOfX CITY. AB H.O.A.B. AU H O A G.
