DENVER, Colo.. Auk. 23-Wlth a strained
back which pained hlm'severcly cvpry time
lie threw a ball, Pitcher Hickman was sent
against Omaha today. When It became evi
dent to the crowd that the plucky little
twlrler could not toop over to pick up a
bunt or put the ball on a runner he was re
placed by Vollendorf In the eighth, but the
damage had already been done, and the
llnal score at tho end of the (same stood 7
t 1 In the visitors' favor. Omaha took full
rtdvantage of Hickman's physical condition
nnd repeatedly got away frith bunts. Four
runs were netted by contluous bunting In the
sixth. Failure to field and the well directed
taps mad the Grlzilles look sleepy. "Ice"
Hall, one pf I'a Uourke'e new pitching
llnds, mada his first appearance In Denver
and deserved to win. His spit. ball delivery,
used generally for the third sy-lke, proved
most effective. Score:

Redlck Shows Form.
In the Snow-Redlck match Redlck showed
sufficient form to Justify the statement that
It Is only a question of a season or two be
fore he will be a prominent aspirant for
championship honors. Although Mr. Snow
defeated him In straight sets 6-0, 6-1 the
core does not begin to ehow the closeness
of the match aa many games went to deuce
and some of Redlck's rallies bordered on

Caldwell and Toung were watched with
considerable Interest In their match with
Oilman and Baker of Sioux City, the win
ners In doubles In the Trl-State meet. The
local champions had matters In their own
hands from the start and did not have to
even extend themselves, although Oilman
worked like a Trojan. Neither he nor
Baker played up to their standard. . Cald
well and Toung played a lobbing game
throughout and Baker continually smashed
the lobs Into the net, seeming to be par
ticularly wild In all his smashing.
Don Raymond Joins Ike.
Hayes defeated Don Raymond by superior
steadiness at critical times. Raymond
started the match by a lead of the first
three games In the Initial set through ex
ceptional placing, but the pace was too hot
for him and the never ending "getting" of
Hayes and his steady returns Into the court
gradually took the life out of Raymond's
play, and the contest was never In doubt
after the middle of the first set.
The courts will all be tn splendid condition
this morning, provided, however, It does not
rain too hard during the night- and all
courts will be kept busy with the champion
ship singles, the championship doubles and
the consolation singles.

$46(1,000 and that he will be In control.
President Lennon of the St. Paul club
declares that Mike Kelly will not manage
the Toledo club next season for the reason
that he ia reserved by St. Paul and must
play there.
Heieafter Sioux City will not get an
other crack at poor old St. Joe this season
and there may now be a chance for thorn
to lose a game, which is a little consolation,
at least, only because the Soo's Ipsa Is
Omaha's gain.
Cincinnati has signed Charlie Hemphill,
St. Paul's center fielder, for next year.
After a season with St. Louis Hemphill
was signed by Lennon and under Mike
Kelly's training has developed Into a good
fielder.

The Injury to Lajote has been a lesson
to ball players who have been careless In
treating Injuries received In a game. Now
most all of them withdraw from the gama
the moment the rusty spikes of some one's
shoes break the skin or In any way make
them susceptible to blood poisoning.
