CHICAGO, Aug 11-Clearing weather In the northwest ellminsted speculstlvc Inter est In wheat and left the market dull and easy. 8cptember closed IV down. Sep tember corn Is up .c. (mts are off a shade. Provisions cloned from 2ic to 7yc lower. An early Indication of weakness in north western markets was reflected here by an InltUl decline In September wheat of Hgvc I" WiSc at h2'HKic. A period of selimg at the outset forced the near option still further down the scale. Rains In the spring wheat districts having seemingly been re sponsible for the recent advsnce. Its cessa tion was the signal for a return of bearish sentiment. September declined to 81c and although some short lines were covered at that llgure the market acquired no buoy ancy. The Close was easy, with September a shade above the low point at 81lSc. ilradstreet's exports of wheat and flour for the week were l.fltat.ooo bu., as atralnpt 1.073.KO for the corresponding week last year. Clearances of wheat and flour were equal to 71.x bu., cornpured with 4M.7"0 for five days last year. Primary receipts were 6W.0i( bu., against 7M.( a year ago. Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago reported receipts of 262 cars, aa against 2M last week and 16 a year ago. A good demand for corn for export was the dominating feature In the market for that cereal. Prices were easier under scattered selling by small holders who were pessimistic under promises of a large yield. J'he taking on of a large line of old crop September delivery by a prominent com mission house brought about a mild re versal of sentiment and advanced all de liveries. New September, which was down feiti'V: at the opening, at f2V'4-7c, gained an even cent over the opening, but re acted and closed steady at ivic. Local receipts were 306 cars, of which 136 were of contract grade. Scattered selling by commission houses caused a shade of a loss in oats, after Which prices did not very much. I'cmand for export was reported good and this had a sustaining Influence. September ranged between afPi'-tic and 26Hc, closing steady at 26c. Ixxal receipts Were 2fi2 cars. Provisions were steady, although prices suffered to some extent from realizing sales by local holders. Packers favored the buying side und there was a moderate shipping demand. Aug. 1 -Precautionary measures to preserve profits In the shape of selling to realise overbore the new buving demand today and gave the stock market of the day a reactionary tone as a whole. Some question as to the possible effect of the outcome of the peRre conference t Portsmouth and the large Inroads of the week on the cash reserves of the hanks em phasised the disposition to reduce com mitments. The market continued to show firm undertone, which was manifested bv the progressive dullness of the trading as prices declined. The selling. In fact, was not Pursued aggressively and the market hsd Its polntj of possible strength as well, although these were few In number and without the prevailing effect that has been seen on previous days of the week. The pushing nn of a few ifnbi ,,v...(n,.-i.. for the purpose of sustaining the rest of j ne muriPi auring the process or proflt-tnk-Itig. The perception of this fact diminished the effect of the advances. St. Paul was the conspicuous Instance of early strength and It was mnde to open at a wide advance oyer last night, while active selling begun almost Immediately at all other points In the list. Late In the day an enormous ac cumulation of Pennsylvania set In and this served to hold the level of prices for a time lit other points. Reading also went to a new high level during the day. This abou cxhnusts the list of strong stocks among the active market leaders. Otherwise the pressure to sell was quite general, but was most marked In the latest specul:.1ive favorites. The renewal of the dispute over freight rates between the coast and gulf lines wns a disturbing factor upon senti ment and the outbreak of yellow fever at new points In the south also was disliked. The sustained firmness of Japanese and 1 'm.1? T,,vernment securities kept tip the belief In financial circles In an ultimata agreement on a peace trenty at Ports mouth, hut the almost hopeless tone of much of the news reports and of the dip lomatic utterances from that point were not without their Influenco on sentiment. The possibility of the failure of the conference had Its part In Inducing profit-taking sales. Hut the preliminary estimates of the cur rency movement for the week, indicating a mss to the Interior of something over 34,004, 0110, was the predominant Influence on the market, especially as the subtreasurv has absorbed from the banks In addition" some gl.r.4,.oi0. With the enormous crops In pros pect and the great business nctivlty of the Interior this requirement may be expected to expand from this time forward. Whllo the market showed resistance from time to time prices were tending downward at the close, which was at about the lowest of the day. Honds were Irregular. Total sales, par value, 33.8uO.00O. There Is a good strong demand for both sheep and lambs, anything coming In being picked op oulrkly, aa buvers are hungrv for supplies. The receipts for the lss't ten days have been, light, creating a good strong market. Heavy receipts could be easily handled with no reduction In prices. The market whs a little stronger than yesterdsy snd the receipts were picked up In good sesson. Feeder buxers were up against It again today, there being little or nothing for them to work on. The receipts show a Decrease or aDout twelve loads as compared with last Friday and a decrease of seven teen cars as compared with the correspond ing day last year. The quality of the cattle was fairly good. Beef steers constituted the big end of the receipts today and there were nearly as many cornfeds as there were westerns. There was a good demand for supples from all sources and sellers found conditions to their advantage. Activity was a feature of the trade and, although about naif of the cattle were late In arrvlng, a clearance was made In good season. There were not many choice steers here, but the general run was good. On the cornfeds, where quality showed, prices were strong and In some cases a dime higher. Commoner grades of both natives and westerns were not wanted very badly and were barely steady. The good western cattle were In about the same condition aa the choice na tives and the general market was strong to a shade higher. The cow and heifer market was good and active. Buyers wanted the cattle and were willing to do a little better than yes terday. Natives and westerns were In about the same supply and were picked up readily ot stronger prices. The trade on bulls, veal calves and stags followed other kinds of cattle and stronger prices were paid for the better grades. Stockers and feeders were In small supply and were not In as good demand as yester day. As usual the latter part of the week the market was a little slow, although prices held fully steady. This fact caused a slow market on the start and little was done early. There were seventy-eight loads reported, but a good many of them did not get In till late, which also muds trading araggy. After buyers and sellers got together, however, trading was better, but was at no time what might be called an gctlve market. The quality of the hogs was fairly good. The market was about a nlrkel higher than yesterday's general trade, some light hugs selling even better than this. The bulk of tiie hogs sold at f K' Vu6.7V. The close was slow and weak.
