OMAHA. Aug. 17. 1906.
There m a stronger feeling in the wheat
market. Rains in the Red River valley this
morning were reported and the fear that
the harvest would be delayed caused Home
buying. Broomhall gent another message

Liverpool closed fcd higher on wheat and
Unchanged to fed higher on corn. Wheat
strength was attributed to firmer cables
from America yesterday and to less favor
able Indian news.
At the seaboard there were sales yester
day of 264,000 bushels of corn for export,
the bulk of it new corn. Chicago sold for
sport about 160,000 bushels of oats and
the seaboard sold 800ou bushels. Primary
wheat receipts were 672,000 bushels and ship
ments 635,000 bushels, against receipts of
7fc3.0oO bushels last year and shipments of
491,000 bushels. Corn receipts were 42M.OOO
bushels and shipments 612,000 bushels,
against receipts of 24:1.000 bushels last
year and shipments of 475,iiOO bushels.
Grain receivers generally report that
farmers have stopped selling oats around
current figures. Bids of e above the
market Were made from Chicago yester
day and failed to bring a stngle car from
Illinois or Indiana. In most of this ter
ritory threshing is over and the unmar
keted surplus quite generally has been
stored, either on the farm or in country
elevators. Meanwhile, the wet weather In
the northwest has shut off the offerings
from Iowa and farther north.
The Minneapolis flour output last week
increased 24,280 barrels. The quantity
turned out was 2.10,6:41 barrels, against lo8,
7.18 barrels In 19o4, and 290.4H6 barrels In
1S03. The output this week probably will
not reach last week s total, as one large
mill has sh.it down. "The flour trade is
looking for lower prices," says the Minne
apolis Miller, "and the bids received by
Minneapolis mills for old whest flour are
In many cases more than 60c a barrel too
low, Wheat prices are fast approaching a
basis where the mills can do soma business

The wheat market was inclined to drag

The transactions of the first hour are the
nost significant of the day and are the
ruciai test of the tone of the market in
he majority of canes. The extreuie anlma-
lon during that period of today was con
vincing evidence of the irowlli of SDecu-

arlous quarter. Every device was used
to make the opening prices high for tho
benefit of those who desired to realise
profits with the advantage of this growing
uisioe demand. The accumulated buying
emand was fed stendllv durlna the whole
of the first hour during the process of
realising profit-taking. The result was a
growing tendency to yield, which became
more marked aa the accumulated buying
orders were worked off. But when this
condition of affairs became evident there
was a discontinuance of the pressure to
sell which threw the market of the middle
portion of the day Into dullness.
Each day s news adds to the confidence

CATTLE There was a Uaht run here to
day, seventy-six cars being on sale. As
compared with last Thursday the receipts
show an Increase of about sixteen cars, but
compared with the same day a year ago
they show a decrease of about twenty-five
cars. The quality of the offerings was
pretty good. Considering the receipts, there
was a good sprinkling of corn feds on sale.
The scarcity of corn-fed cattle made
prices better on anything choice and there
was a good, strons demand for the cattle,
and trading was active, preference being
given to tne native offerings and they were
bought up first. Buyers seemed to want
these cattle and a clearance was made
early. Prices for anything choice were 6U1
10c higher, but commoner grades were In
poor demand and did not bring any better
prices thsn were paid yesterday. The sup
ply Of western cattle was Brood, the hlar end
of the receipts consisting of that kind. On
ine goo a stun nuyers were willing to pay
fully steady prices and in some cases sales
looked Btronger. Activity was also a fea
ture of the trade on these cattle and a
clearance was made In good season.
Cows and heifers took a turn for the bet
ter and sellers had the advantage. Good
cornfeds were higher, but the commoner
grades Just steady. Western stuff was In
fair demand at stronger prices, while oan-
nins Hna cutting grades were lower.
The bull trade was not good today, there
being little demand and prices aa a conse
quence were lower. Veal calves and stags,
however, were Just about steady.
Btookers and feeders were in fair sunnlv
and the weak tone noted the last two days
was not In evidence. Trading waa fairly
active and the good kinds ruled 10c higher.
wnue common Kinds were steady to strong.

Sllh.Kl' Tnere were fourteen cars of
sheep reported this morning. The stuff
came In two consignments, composed of
both killers and feeders of fair quality. The
market at tnls point is in a vei y saiisiac
tory condition and there Is a good strong
demand for supplies, but for some time back
there has haruiy been enough stuff here to
make much of a snowing. Good heavy
runs could be handled esaily, as pacKeis
and country buyers are hungry for supplies
and only waiting for a 'decent run. Prices
ruled stronger again today and after the
sheep were ready to show they were picked
readily at the prices.
Feeders are still waiting for a good run
to fill the many orders tney have, but on
acount or the light receipts could do little
again today,

HOGS ThervS was a light run here for 1

The light receipts and encouraging reports
from tne east put the trade In better shape
and sellers hud the advantage. On the
opening there was nothing doing and It was
some nine nine ueiore actual trading be

and buyers were waiting around for them
to arrive. Along about 9 o'clock buyers
and sellers began to get together and from
tnen on me ira,i war, strong and active
Buyers wsnt right after the hogs and
