" Heturna covering threshing done to Au gust 1 show a yield of winter wheat heav ier than was Indicated, according to Prln gle. Fitch Rankin. In Texas, Tennes see, Kentucky and Missouri, they say, the yield and quality are poorer than expected, largely because of the rain during harvest, but In the heavy producing districts the yield Is good, occasionally running to ex traordinary figures. The average of thresh ing to date Is 14 8 bushels, Indicating. If maintained by later results, a winter wheat crop of at least 440.COO.OjO bushels. Omaha. ( asn. Prices. Another factor wns rnther bullish foreign news. Private advices from Paris gave an unfavorable Impression re garding the wheat crop of France. Free selling by pit traders, however, caused a reaction soon to about the opening figures. For a time the market remained unlet and steady, but during the Inst hour prices vie bled to heavv 1 otiida Horn sentiment ne ming nisunriiy neurisn. l ne cause m the selling pressure was the weekly re port of tee weather bureau at Washing ton. The action of to- dav's stock market contained some iug- festlona of sn arrest Ol progress, in mm r a considerable part of the day the average level of prices was Deiow mat of last night. There were some snarp reactions as well, where the greatest strength, had been shown previously, sug gesting the Inference that the market had overrun Itself. Nevertheless, the char acter of the trading was not essentially rlmnffcd from that recent v prevailing. Jo- day's slight reactions were promptly fol lowed tiv nromuna dullness. mere w no change In the nature of the news nor In the expressed confidence In the out looks for values. A number of stocks rose during the day to the highest prices In their history ana tne average icvei 01 tha market as usually computed made progress toward Its record level which It Is still considerably short of. There Is no doubt that this high existing level has much to do with the caution ana nest- tatlon with which attempts are made to lift it any higher. The period of the year Is admonitory, as In the natural course of things a narrowing of the floating mar ket supply of moncv Is to be expected. The persistent ease of money up to this time, however, prevents any Immediate ef fect from this influence. Much Importance is attached to the gov eminent report of the condition of the grain crop August 1, which is to be given out by the Agricultural department on Thursday. The weekly crop bulletin of the weathci bureau elven out today, helped to confirm the confidence now generally felt In the states of the harvests. Hut the August report Is looked to with addi tional Interest as marking a definite period In the determination of the crops. The volume of today's dealings In stocks Indicates that these restrictive Influences did not affect the volume of the trading Kieatlv as compared with the recent av- enure. Some of the stocks which moved today were among those whose recent determined sluggishness has created the Im pression that large and Influential llscnl Interests were seeking to restrain any movement In the market. Buch stocks were Baltimore Ohio and Union Pacific. Ixindon's resumption of trading after three days of holiday yielded little Increase of business here. The settlement of the passenger rate war among the trunk lines was regarded with significance as were the efforts being made to settle the dispute over freight rates to the Atlantic coast and Quit ports. St. Paul failed to re spond to Its strong showing of net earn ings for June and the fiscal year. A good shipping demand helped the msr ket out, as some of the packers did not get out on the opening. There was con siderable activity to the trade until after buyers got their more urgent orders filled, when they held up some and the market from then on was slow. Shipping hogs of both light snd heavy weights were a big nickel higher and some of the choicer loads were even better. Packers Were a little slow to meet the advance after the first round or two, but fi.ially bought their hogs at 4ust about a nickel advance. The market on the close was a Utile slow and prices eased off some. The bulk of the hogs sold st 85.82'iiS.874. with the popular price at $5.85 and tops reaching $-.924. These receipts were some 47 cars heavier than lam Tuesday and about b9 cars heavier than the corresponding day of last year. The quality was fairly good. The western run has now started and the supply of cornfed cattle from now on will pioiiaoiy tie very light. Heef steers constituted the big end of the receipts and there was some good stuff offered. The range conditions In the west are good and the cattle are coming In in fair flesh. There was considerable activity to the trading, ns buyers were out after supplies and there was a good demand from all sources. The good cattle ruled fully steady wltn yesterday's prices, as also did the choice grades of cornfeds. But the poorer grades of cornfeds were hard to muve and were in small demand, buyers preferring the westerns. These common cornfeds always suffer from com petition with tho westerns at this time of ta.!- . . . .... 'mere was a lair run or cows ana nergers on sttle und there was the same atron oe- tnand that has been in evidence the last few days. The call for the stuff was broad from all sources and It did not take long to make a clearance. Stronger prices were paid for all the good kinds, while commoner grades changed uanus at Just about steady prices. Bulls, veal calves and stags sold about the same as yesterday, with a good demand for feeder bulls. The supply of stockers and feeders was fairly liberal, consult ring tne receipts and there was a good, strong demand. There were plenty of orders to be filled and ac tlvity was a feature of the trade. Steady prices ruled generally and at those figures a clearance was mude in good season. Rep- 26i? There were only fourteen cars received and these, with the five cars held over, constituted the receipts. The offerings were of good quality and there was a fair pro portion of feeders on sale, ror some tune past the market has been slow and gtrung out till late. Prices were not affected In the least, but on account of the sorting lo be done trading was draggy. Today this feature was almost eliminated, buyers wanting supplies and sellers being ready to trade early. I'rlces were stronger than yesterday and In some cases Ii-jIdc higher. Trading was uctlve and the siulf was picked up 111 pretty good shape by midday. There was a good, strong demand here for feeders and a good many more buyers than sellers. There were plenty of orders to fill, but the supply was not up to the requirements of the trade, nor has It been so far this season.
