according to Jerry McMahon, elevator con
ductor at the city hall, who says he Is one
of Its main props. Mr. McMahon declare
that be will come out as a candidate for the
council against President Zlmman next
spring, being fully assured that he will be
both nominated and elected. He expresses
the opinion that his political services In the
past deserve much better treatment at the
hands of the people than the ups and
downs of an elevator conductor's life, and
be accuses Zlmman of blocking his ascen
sion to an Inspectorship In the sidewalk
department.
The mayor was willing," says Jerry.
"But Zlmman said 'No, keep him on the
elevator; that Job Is good enough for him.'
Now I propose to show Mr. Zlmman he

lieve I can beat him out and I am going to
