expert who was sent iate In May to In

Wars out his former opinion that the light
weight seed hud produced a good plant.
The report says that In portions of south
ern Minnesota all crops have been dam
aged by the hoavy rainfall, many
fields becoming rank, losing color and
lodging. In parta of South Dakota there
has been so much heavy rain that the aoll
ta packed, and this Is Interfering with

The wheat market was strong from start

Scattered showers throughout the sptlng

strength. Other bullish influences were at
hand, including a moderate Advance at

renewed rains In the northwest. Front the
start shorts were active buyers. Commis

progressed demand became more urgent
and the market developed additional
strength. Demand was further augmented
by fresh reports from the northwest telling

Demand for Time

NEW TORK, July T.-Transactlons In
storks yielded no larger total of aales than
yesterday. There was less violent conges
tion in one or two stocks, although Reel
ing and Union Pacific still held a very con
spicuous place In the trading. Reaulng
extended Its record rrice, as It hss eurh
day for some time past, and there seemed
no limit to the speculative confidence of
those who hsve advanced the stock. Many
rumors are current of the large outstand
ing short interest which Is driven to cover
bv the persistent rise In the stock. Union
Pacific was subjected to profit-taking sales
and was thus held In check In spite of the
good returns of net earnings for May madfl
by the llarrlman Pacifies. To offset this
nrofit-takinB- there was some diversion of
professional support to other quarters of the
market and this gave the market an appear
ance of somewhat greater breadth than
that of yesterday. Some of the low priced
non-dlvldend paying railroad stocks were
brought Into activity. The coalera had the
advantage of the figures of anthracite out
put for June, showing a well sustained
volume. Pennsylvania and the Erics were
both strong. There was little news bear-
hie: on values or on the movement of prices,
the occasional advances being clearly due
to vagaries ot speculative sentiment ai
much as anything else.
The report of the week's currency move
ment did not Indicate important changes
In the cash Item of the banks and not
much attention was paid to it. An Inter
estlng development was a large Increase for
the demand for time loans. This was de
clared to come from stock commission
houses and was supposed to be Incident to
the present activity In the stock market or
to prospective operations there. The tono
of time money was steadied, but there was
no important change In rates. The wneat
market reflected some anxiety over the wet
weather reported from the crop regions,
but the stock market was not Impressed.

There Is a good demand here for desirable

all the same ami buyers evidently wanted
Some other kinds of sheer, and on part of the
offerings were Inclined to he a little bear

C ATl'l.E-Heceints were moderate today
and the quality of the offerings was fairly
good. There was a better feeling than
yesterday and trading was more active.
The adverse conditions noted yesterday in
the market on beef steers were almost en
tirely eliminated today and there was a
better tone to the trade. Buyers were on
the hill early and picked up the stuff In
fair searon. Salesmen found little trouble
In disposing of their holdings at g.od
steady prices, and In some cases sales
looked stronger. The light receipts and
encouraging reports from eastern points
favored market conditions here. Buyers
and sellers got together early and , there
was considerable activity to the trading.
The conditions today showed that there Is
a fairly good demand for a limited number
of cattle, but liberal receipts might cause
a break in prices.
There was a limited number of cows and
heifers on sale and conditions favored sell
ing Interests. Trading was active and a
clearance was made In good season. Buy
ers evidently wanted supplies and paid
prices that looked stronger as compared
with yesterday's general market.
Oood bulls sold today at stronger prices,
while the poorer grades, as well as veal
calves and stags, were fully "leady.
Stockers and feeders were In light de
moiui tndav and there were only a few
loads offered. These were picked up at
steadv prices, although there was no urgent
call for cattle of this kind. Representative

HOOS Trading In the hog yards, al
though prices were generally stronger
early, was not very satisfactory from
sellers' standpoint. There was only a mod
erate run, about 101 loads being 011 sale,
and the general quality of the offerings
was fairly good, but buyers were backward
about taking hold, and trading as a con
sequence was slow. Prices were about
2Vc higher on the opening than yesterday s
close and a little stronger than yesterday's
best time, but later the murket flattened
out, all the advance being lost. The bulk
of the hugs sold at .". Jini '.'T' with tops
reaching 15 35. Oood light weight butcher
stuff weighing t:o to 275 pounds was In
best demand and was about the only kind
that there waa an urgent call for. Extra
light and heavy weights were alow to
move at the prices noted above:

Wool Market.
BOSTON, July 7 WOOL The Com
mercial Bulletin tomorrow will say of the
wool market: A decidedly Stronger feeling
Is apparent since the opening of the Ixm
don wool auctions on July 4 at a SfflO per
cent advance over the May closing prices.
Dealers are confident of the Immediate
futures of the market and consider the
values will be maintained on their present
basis for some time. There has been a
good business In all wool except fleeces
and pulled. Shearing has been further de
layed hy rains and the wools from Mon
tana are not expected for about two wi-ek-i.
The foreign markets, both English and
continental, are strong and rising, with a
shortage of the short supplies, which are
causing considerable won:' among manu
facturers. Shipments of wool from Host in
