NEW YORK. June 26 The course of to
day's stock market was watched with par
ticular Interest to obtain light on how far
last week's professionally conducted ad
vance would prove successful in awaaening
Interest In the market. The result was en
couraging to the hopes ef those who had
emharged In the campaign In the confidence
that an aggressive leadership In buying
stocks would attract a following. The
earlv deallnirs on Mnndnv morning are
likely to reflect the conclusions summed up
from the events of the week before on tne
part of thoae who have watched from day
to day without making a definite determlna
tlon. On the other hand, It Is often the
case that the professional operators who
have accumulated stocks only wait for the
Monday morning demand thus attracted, to
unload and secure the benefit of the ad
vance. The activity In the first hour to
day was accepted aa evidence of a consid
erable extension of Interest In the market
and buying orders were reported In In
creased volume from widely extended re
f:lons of the country. There was not lack
ng the customary selling to take advant'
age of this demand for the reallxing of
prices. Hut the effect on the course of
prices was not marked and the uplift con
tinued quite steadily. Prices In Iondon fol
lowed our mnrket and did not at any time
overtake It. so that there was a profit in

Increases was that they were Indicated
by the high level at which the stocks were
already selling. Incongruity In pushing
these stocks to a still higher level did not
seem to appear to the partisans of thla
argument. Railroad traffic officials made
encouraging reports and It was pointed out
that June earnings this year will compare
with the period of flood dnmaa-e last year.
The grain markets were disturbed bv crop
damage reports, but stocks failed to be af

the money nmrket entirely undisturbed left

Foreign Financial.
LONDON, June 26. Money In the market
today was In moderate demand to meet
calls on recent Issues, Including the Cana
dian Northern railroad debentures. DIs
counts were firm In view of the condttlon
of short loans and continental exchanges.
Trading on tha Stock exchange opened
quiet, undecided and rather nervous and
sensitive, partly owing to the nolit cal tin
easiness and partly on account of It being
the eve of the settlement. Paris selling at
first aided the depression, but later prices
rallied and closed firmer, financial circles
believing that the Moroccan question la In
a fair way toward settlement. Consols
started a shade down and recovered.
Americans opened Irregular and mostly un
der parity and recovered a trifle. The Im
provement continued during the last hour
and was Imost pronounced! Prices closed
firm, but below the best Quotations of the

SHEEP Recelpta of sheep today wore
liberal, about eighteen cars being on sale.
The offerings were all range stuff and
were of fairly good quality. Buyers were
out early ind there waa some little ac
tivity to tho trading. Lambs were In best
demand and prices ruled generally stronger,
whlie In soma cases ssLes looked higher.
Old sheep, while fully steady with the close
of last week, were not In as good demand
and were a little harder to move. A part
of the receipts went as feeders and on
these kinds there was a good demand and
prices were stronger. There were three
decks of yearling wethers and ewes that
sold for $5.35 and the old wethers In the
same shlument brought 84.60. There were
two doubles of ewes that sold for $4.50
today, which brought a dime more last
Friday. The market here Is In satisfac
tory shape as compared with other points
nd there Is a good demand for anything
desirable.

CAT 1 LB As was noted on several days
last week, it was due to the heavy re
ceipts that the market ruled lower and
that lighter offerings would stiffen tho
trade. These predictions were verified to
day, when, with about ninety cars of cattle
on sale, the market showed strengtn ana
activity. The general quality of tne stuff
was ralrly good.
The market on href steers waa In better
shape than at the close of last week and
there was considerable urgency to tne ae
niand. Buyers were out early and seemed
to want the cattle. Prices on the good
kinds showed an advance of about a dime
and some sales looked even higher than
this. On the common and grassy Kinds
prices ruled about steady, with trading a
little slow. There Is a fair demand for
a limited number of desirable beef cattle.
but the market can be easily, swamped.
The advance today was due apparently to
the light receipts, and while the market to
dav and the latter part of last week was
stronger, the country trade must remember
that anything like neavy receipts wouia
cauae a break in nrlces and send the mar
ket lower, wnue tne ngni receipts oi mo
last few days have alleviated the situation
somewhat, it is still in an unsatisfactory
condition from the sellers' Dolnt of view.
There was a small supply of cows and
heifers here today, and, as was the case on
steers, the market ruled stronger and tho
demand was better than for some days. On
the good kinds the market was tully a
dime higher and trading was active, buyers
n ek ni ud the stun in gooa season, com
mon and grassy kinds, while Just about

There was only a light supply ot stockers
and feeders on hand today and there waa a
