w heat row Hc today without any cause
apparent to tne local crowd. It la a
weather market now and there wore re
port of heavy rains in Kansas and Okla
homa, but It is clear In other portion, and
tne Bovernment report is favorable. A
large decrease In the visible supply helped
ttie nulls. Julv closed ar Hilc itontvmrMP
V. c nd ""eniher at M-c.
Corn Is strong today, which Is an tin
expected situation, considering the fact
that 746 cars were received today In Chi
cago. It la explained by the fact that con
tract stocks are (letting very low and the
demand keeps pare with the current re
ceipts. July closed at 544c, old July at
MCMV. September at b2c. old Septem
ber at 63c. December at 4jj'-HX43c and old
December ut 6o'4c
Oats took a bruce, though there was but
a small demand. July closed at SI Ho., Sep
tember at 294c and December at 30Sc.
Contract stocks at Chicago are 831,126
bushels of wheat; corn, 264.661 bushelu;
pats, 704,335 bushels. The decrease from
last week Is: Wheat, 08,41 bushels; corn,
62l.i64 bushels;' oat. 8tU3fi bushels. It Is
estimated that the stock of corn in public
elevators there- Saturday night will be less
than 6O.00O bushels. .
The big wire ho.ism at Chicago were on
both sides of the market yesterday. Valen
tine did a little sailing and most of the
commission houses had wheat to sell on
hard spots. The sensational trading was
almost at the last, when Prlngle sold to
Rankin, his partrsir, 1,000.000 bushels of
September at one time and offered him
1 ,000.000 more bushels t the mime price.
There wan a quiet demand at Chicago for
cash wheat and sales aggregated 36,010
bushels. Prices in store were nominally
25c over July for. No. 1. Kansns City Is
bidding SfiHo for new No. 2 hard for de
livery any lme In. July to fill the Minne
apolis demand there.
"Wheat bears yesterday were becoming
confident enough to go Into figures." says
today's Record-Herald. "They are esti
mating that Kansas City will receive 6,000,.
000 bushels new wheat In July, St. Louis
f.OOO.OOO bushels and Haltlmore 1.000,000
bushels. St. Louis had Its first liberal re
ceipts of new wheat yesterday. 300 bags.
Kansas City had a car of No. 2 from
Oklahoma. It weighed 61 pounds and
brought $1.06 a bushel at auction."
The flour business has been good at To
ledo for the last week, says a wire from
that city. It was double that of a year
ago. Buyers Insist on and beg for quick
shipment, which means stocks are low and
Indicates that they will take freely of flour
as soon as tne new crop or wheat is avail
able. One milling concern has sold ahead
thirty days on the basis that it has been
running. .000 barrels weekly. It will In
crease Its production next week to make
oulok shipments.
There were large sales of cash corn at
Chicago yesterday, 300,000 bushels, and more
would have been sold If It could have been
obtained.

CHICAGO, June Jd.i-Wrt weather In the
northwest Indyed active buying by shorts
In the wheat pit here today. A report that
France will be a heavy Importer of Amer
ican wheat augmented the demand. The
market closed practically at the highest
point of the day, with July up IH'oHsC.
Corn Is up Iio. Oats show a gain of 2c.
Provisions are down 2H'cJ16e.
With the exception of a slightly easier
tone at the opening, the wheat market
was strong the entire session. A decline
st Liverpool created some disposition here
to sell st the start. As a result July was
off a shade to H'n'Ao at 87fi7'c. Com
mission houses, however, soon became
active bidders. The advance started with
a report from a Chicago crop expert who
wired that yields of wheat In southern
Illinois would te verv small, ranging from
five to fifteen bushels an acre. The weather
bureau reports Indicated clear skies In the
northwest, but a private dispatch to a
commission house here stated that rain
had fa-Hen throughout the Red river val
y and In South Dakota. Allegations of
damage by rust were renewed, the fields
of Minnesota being reported chiefly af
fected. I-Ate In the session was given addi
tional strength by an estimate on the
wheat crop of France. According to an
English expert, the total yield will be about
288,000,000 bushels. These figures suggested
a probability that France would have to
Import from America 60.000.000 to 60.000.000
bushels. During the last hour of trading
shorts were extremely active bidders, but
the demand continued to meet with meager
offerings.. For July the highest point of
the day was reached at RP'i'u 89KC. The
market closed almost at the top. final
quotations on July being up lH'ulc at
89'e.. Clearances of wheat and flour were
equal, to 6.377 bushel. The world's visible
supply decreased 2.700.000 busnels. Primary
receipts were 242,8") bushels compared with
ZiT.Scio bushels a year ago. Minneapolis
Duluth and Chicago reported receipts of
ISO cars against 202 cars last week and 217
car a year ago.
rVntlment In the corn pit was decidedly
bullish throughout the entire session. Sev
eral prominent longs were active buyers
and shorts followed the lead. .The market
closed at the highest point of the day.
July opened unchanged to a shade higher
at 534c to 53Vt,fr634e. sold up to 64Hc and
closed at the top. Local receipts were 743
cars with 213 of contract grade.
Strength of wheat and corn had a bull
ish effect on the oats market. The volume
of trading was small. July opened Ho lower
at 30Ho. sold up to 3TA,c and olosed at the
highest point. Local receipts were 163
cars.
Provisions were easier on extremely lib
eral receipts of hogs. At the close Sep
tember pork was oft 12H'31&c at $12.82W7f
12 85. Lard was down 2Ve at 7.407.42H

NEW TORK, June 20. More stock were
old In the two hours before noon today
than during the full session of yesterday.
In the afternoon there was a contraction
In the rate of activity, but the sales for
the day rose to a larger total than for
any day since early last week. The mar
ket obviously was still largely In profes
sional hands, but the traders operated more
freely and there were Indications of tne re
entry Into the market of some of the larger
semi-professional speculators who have re
trained from activity for some time Daat.
The assertion is made and evidently cred
ited amongst the professional operators
that the holdings of stocks by commission
bouses at this time are at an unusually
low ebb and that weakly margined hold
ings have been almost completely cleared
up. The technical strength of such a po
slllon makes the market Invulnerable to
ordinary attack. The eagerness of the
professionals to see prices move in one
direction or the other prompts them always
iu iuiiow me line ox ine ieai resistance
They were Inclined today to put prices up
until the weight of offerings attracted by
the advance should prove an obstacle.
Realizing in Reading was very manifest
and this fact was a palpable check to
the operations for the advance. Some
general effect on sentiment was produced
also, by the realizing In the Japaneso
bonds, as these have been the real leaders
of small speculation for some time past
i-rooaniy tne weeKiy crop Duiieun or tne
weather bureau was as much responsible
as any other one thing for the advancing
tendency of prices. The reports on the
corn and cotton crops were especially
cheerful, and railroads having a large per
centage of traffic in . those commodities
were helped accordingly. The winter
wheat carriers were not so responsive
owing to reports of Immediately unfavora
ble weather conditions. In addition to the
corn and cotton Influence, the retention of
the 1 per cent dividend rate on Tennessee
coal was accepted as an Index of favora
ble conditions In the southern Iron In
dustry. There was also some renewal of
gossip of an Intended Increase In the
Louisville & Nashville dividend rate. Pub
lished reports of the undiminished activity
of steel mills In the Pittsburg district gave
ine impulse to the rise in I sited states
Steel preferred.
Satisfaction was professed over the better
understanding reported between France
hnd Germany, but foreigners were sellers
of stocks to a small extent in this market.
Foreign monev markets, however, eased
off and the result was the reappearance
of bankers' exchange bills In the local
market Incident to the process of lending
roreign runas here. The supply or runas
for call loans continued very abundant,
but the tone 'or time loans Is hardening.
The day's rise In prices was very well
maintained through the dullness of the
later market.
Bonds were Irregular. Total sales par
value. 12,630,000. United States bonds were
all unchanged on call.

LONDON. June 80. Money was plenti
ful in the market ' today following the
release of JaDanese, KOVrnment disburse

about $2,600,000. The operations on the
Stock Exchange were, mostly uninteresting.
Stocks were not materially benefited by
the improved monetary outlook though
later there "was generally a better ten

hardened. Americans opened steady. Im

BOSTON. June Jo. WOOL A quieter
tone prevails In the wool market, but prices
are as firm as ever. Many of the new
wools are at hand and higher quotations
are not unexpected. Dealers generally ex
pect that the present high prices will be
sustained for a considerable period. New
wools have sold freely, while the call for
cross-brads has declined. The old pulled
wools have been practically all sold. For

CATTLE Receipts
than they have been
about 256 cars being
receipts of cattle at all points for the past
week has been the chief cause for the
continued decline, and a change for the
better will come only when the receipts
become lighter. The receipts have been
so liberal that packers claim that they are
taking on supplies faster than they can
dispose of them, and as a consequence they
are uninterested buyers.
The market on beef steers was very slow
today, buvers being especially indifferent
and sellers found It hard to dispose of
their holdings even at a big decline. Buyers
were on the hill early, but were- decidedly
bearish and were asking big concessions
There was little or no urgency to the de
mand and It was well along In the fore
noon before anything of any consequence
was done. There were some good cattle
offered, but even on these kinds trading
was verv slow and dull. The general mar
ket ruled 10ifil5c lower, and In some cases
even a greater decline than this was noted.
Common and grassy kinds were In very
poor demand and show the biggest loss.
The market on cows and heifers was In
little better sliane than the steers, the
same conditions being noted. Trading was
slow and dull and the liberal receipts
forced a further decline. There was llttl
demand for the cattle and it was well
along toward noon before anything was
done. Some salesmen Were fortunate
enough to get prices that looked about
steady on some of their choice, heavy, dry
lot stuff, but the general market showed
the same decline as did the steers and In
some cases more.-
Good bulls showed little. If any. decline
today, but common kinds and veal calves
and stags are oft about a dime or moref
with trading slow and draggy.
There were onlv a few stockers and feed
ers In the yards this morning and they
were 'mostly light common stuff that was
not wanted. The trading on these kinds
wss slow and the market ruled 1525c
lower. Representative sales:

HOGS Receipts were liberal again today,
about 182 loads being on sale. Early re
ports from eastern points were discouraging
and Chicago's maiket opened a nickel
lower. This fact had a hear Influem-e on
trading here and buyers were asking con
cessions. Sellers were backward about let
ting go of their holdings and trading all
through the morning was slow. The mar
ket opened with bidding 2Vu6c lower, but
after the flrst round or two the market
settled down to a mostly 6c lower basis
and it was at this d- line that the most
of the trading was done. Light weight
hogs were still In (he best di-msml and
heavy stuff suffered the mopt. The bulk
of the hogs sold at $5 l.'HJ.U, with now
and then a good load of light stufl bringing
S3 Wit and some heavv weights selling at
$5.10. Representative sales:
