20 TnE OMAIT.V. DAILY REK: KtTNDAY. 'Armi. 2. IMS. SOFT COAL SUMMER RATES Railroad. May Make Reduction During the , Warm Months. WILL AFFECT THE COLORADO PRODUCT Idea la to Mlmalate Traflle at Tinr Wkra Tk-re In Mttle Boiliru la the Mar. M'nllroadft hauling Colorado coal to Mis souri river points and K'bwlt Interior stations are beginning to consider the put ting Into effect a reduction of 25 cents per ton on this business (mm April 15 to July 81, which rates crc effective during the snmo period last year. The official ay these rates serve as stimulators during the period when the movement of cosd would rot naturally bo very brisk and act as lu ctntlvrs for the conl men to store up coal at tho reduced tariffs. The line particu larly Interested In this business are the Burlington. Union riiclfir. Northwestern. Rock Island and Missouri raclfle. Borne time next week, It Is stated", the matter will be definitely announced, the prospects being that last year's arrangement will ob tain this season. The.e reducsd rates are to take in the Wolsenburg group of mines and various other mines In the same dis trict. Barllngton Milk Train. The result of Friday's conference at Bur lington headquarters between iraffla officials of that line and various representatives of the dairy industries of the state was merely a better understanding as to the manner in which the dairy products of the state shall bn transported to the markets. "There was nothing in the proceedings of the conference that would Interest the gen eral public outside of the fact that tho state has made surh advances In tho dairy busi ness as to warrant nn occasional meeting between the railroad men and those rep resenting the dairy interests," staled Fred erick Montmorency, assistant general freight agent of the Burlington. That official further explained that on April 10 a new dairy schedule will be put Into effect on tho B. & M., special dairy cars being carried over - some branches twice a week and over others three times a week, according to the volume of business handled. These dairy cars are attached to the regular passenger trains. Effective April 1, H. D. Weber will begin the duties of dairy agent for tho Burlington lines east of the Missouri river. Tills office has Just been created. Doesn't Affect Rnnnlnjr Time. The changed schedule of Various Union Pacific and Northwestern trains arriving at and departing from the Union station, s announced Friday, will not affect the actual running time of tho trains, It Is explained. The changes, which are to be in effect Sunday, were to conform with changes mads on the Harriman lines west of Ogden. So far as can be learned there seems to be no disposition at present to cut down the running time on the lines referred to. Itallwar IVotea and Personals. Tl. F. Schnrnsteln of Chicago, traveling pawKoiiger agent for the Erie, spent the lirst day of April in Omaha. F. I-. Umax, general passenger and ticket agent of the Union Pacific, has re turned from Chicago, where he has been for several weeks checking over rates. J. O, Philllppi, assistant general freight agent of the Missouri Pacific, haji re turned from St. Louis, where he attended a meeting of Missouri Pacific officials. AORTH 16t It STRKF.T MF.P.CHAMS Anake te the Fact that There Is Strength la tailed Action. Omaha has a new organisation in the North Sixteenth Street Improvement club, which is a llvo proposition. "The merchants on Notth Sltxeenth street are awake to the fact that there is strength in united action and that they can Increase their in dividual business by working together. It Is a part of their program to secure better store buildings in their part of town and to fight for Improvements ou the uorth side of the city generally. They claim that more than one-half of tho population of Omaha lives north of Dodge street, so that a North Sixteenth street location is the most desirable in the city from the standpoint of business get ting. In addition to this, they say that rents are lower cn North Sixteenth street, bo that they are in a position to make better prices than merchants who pay high rents right In the center of town. The club has over 100 members in Its or ganisation, and among other plans that are being carried out some of Its members are advertising Jointly In The Bee to bring both tho advantages of North Sixteenth street and the advantages of trading with varioas firms individually before the public In a forcible way. They claim that If these ad vantages are brought before the people who live on the north side of town In a business-like way, that they will be quick to grasp opportunities offered by the North Sixteenth street merchants. A Baking- Pnwdtt Triumph. , . , About six weeks ago the Allen Bros, company, the Omaha wholesale grocers, formulated a plan to celebrate their first anniversary In their own building by get ting their thirty-five salesmen to sell for April 1 shipment 500 barrels of C. P. baking powder, their own product, under the di rect coaching of Mr. Arthur Allen. Yes terday they had tho satisfaction of seeing their ambition gratified. The wagons started to haul away this mountain of C. P. baking powder promptly at 7 a. m., and not until noon did the laat wagon leave their factory. It was distributed as far east as Elkhart, Ind., as far west a Utah, as far north as tho state of North Dakota and as fax south as St. Joseph, Mo. An average barrel of C. P. baking powder weighs 280 pounds, making a total weight of about seventy tons. The people of Omaha hardly realize they have such a baking powder plant In the city. It Is certainly a record the manufacturers feel proud of, their salesmen must be elated over and their customers, who contributed their share toward making the day a suc cess, certainly show their confidence in the purity of this product by placing their orders in such Immense quantities. How Is Itf When you lay away your winter linen you havo it washed first, do you not? Then why not do tho same with your outer garments, they are probably full of dirt. grease and germs and if laid away in that condition you will dig up an old worn out suit this fall. (It, is a well known fact that dirt and grease rut clothing.) On the other hand suppose you send them to The Pantorlum and have them Dry Cleaned and this fall you will -get out a suit that looks fresh and new and all ready to put on. You will get enough more wear out of the garments to more than pay for the cleaning. Our. prices are right too. Sluts, 81.60; overcoats, $1.60, and others In proportion.
