ARCADE &ii.Ls PLACE OF DETENTION FOR BOYS Probation Officer Bernstein Has No Place to Incarcerate Any Wlio Are Reealeltrant. What to do with Juveniles when It Is necessary to lock them up Is a question which Is claiming the attention of "Mogy" Bernstein. He now ha . nine on parole and the number will Increase rapidly. The Juvenile court law provides that child prisoners shall not . be detained In the same place with adults, and "Mogy" Is unwilling to allow any child to be taken to the police station even for a day. Yet he Is at a loss to know what to do under present conditions if a parole should be violated. Mr. , Bernstein says that the Judges of the Juvenile court will appear before the Board of County Commissioners Saturday and ask them to provide at once a place of detention. Two auch places are needed, for the law does not allow those who have been delinquent through thoughtless ness to be locked up with those who have committed criminal offenses. Turned Over to Bernstein. Emll Valine, charged with cutting Ed Flood on the nlfcht of March 4. has ben turned over to the Juvtmiln court. Police Judge Berks having deputed, after perusal of a copy of the new law, that he has no Jurisdiction In the case. The matter has been hanging fire In police court for more than a we.k, on account tf delay in curing certified copies of the law. It was a question whether or not Judge aterka has JurUUIotiou In feluuy, caaes 1 where the offender is under 16 years of age. He has not, under the new law, and Valine was given hito the cure of Chief Probation Officer Bernstein. PAVING WAITS ON WEATHER North Sixteenth Street Job Will Not Be Touched for Soma Time. The unfinished North Sixteenth street paving, from Webster to Isard streets. Is to ,ba laid as soon as the city engineering departments thinks the weather warrants ordering construction. The matter has been taken up by the council and instruc tions given to start the work at once, but in the publio works department it Is held that it would be folly to try to put down asphalt paving so early in the year with constant danger from freeilng . and washouts. Therefore It has been decided to hold back the orders to .the Barber Asphalt company from fifteen to thirty days, and possibly longer. Angry Wife tots Herself. Irate because she believed her husband to, ba paying attentions to a colored woman, Mrs. McGraw sailed Into a Cum ing street saloon after "her man Mlku' Hud bmsn to trace geometric fitcures be fore his faro with an Utfly butcher knife.
