CURRENT LITERATURE.
Th March St. Nicholas Is a fiction num
tftr, fiction that will please not only ths
girl and boys, but the grown-ups of the
family ss well. There are more chapter
and colored pictures, of course, to carry on
tha fun and adventure of L. Frank Baum's
Queen Zlxl of Ix." Then Agues Louise
Provost's "When the Ice Came Down" Is a
pleasantly aeaaonable story, and one to en
thuM all ambitious lad. There Is another
of tile de.lecU.ble "Plnkey Perkins" stories,
tetlln this time "How Plnkey Got Even."
Evry reader will laugh with Plnkey and
rejoice over the success of his mischievous
schemes. Belle Mow 'The Revenue Fund"
ts good reading for all the family, and
Bwedle," by N. De Bertrand Lugrln, Is the
fin story of brave little Yukon hero.
Important articles of timely Interest, and
a wealth of fiction, are noticeable In the
Century Magaslne for March. How the
Russian Gibraltar was cracked open by the
Japanesn, before the food supplies were
nearly exhausted. Is most Interestingly ex
plained by Richard Barry, an eye-witness.
In "The New Blege Warfare at Port
Arthur"; David Bell Macgowan, who will
be remembered as the author of a recent
article on 'The Russian Lourdes," and last
month of "The Conflict In Finland." now
writes, with knowledge freshly obtained
from representative Russians, of "The Out
look for Reform In Russia." -'"A Wonder
worker of Science." by William S. Har
wood. is the first of two authoritative
articles on the surprising achievements of
Luther Burbank, the California producer of
the thornless cactus and other plant novel
ties, which are shown plctoiially.
Mr. Maybrick'a own story. "My Fifteen
Lost Tsars," by Florence Elizabeth May
hrtck. This American woman spent the
best fifteen years of her life In an English
prison, although Innocent of any crime.
Stripped of her fortune and deprived of her
children, Mn. Maybrlck returns to her na
tive America and tells her sad story, a story
full ef the most Intense personal Interest.
She baa written with her own hand a book
giving for the first time her side of this
awful tragedy. It Is a most deeply inter
esting tory from beginning to end. Only
fragments of this history have -appeared In
newspapers and magazines. Published by
Funk A TV agnails company.
"Tha Prospector," a tale of the Crow's
Nest Pass,. by Ralph Connor. "The Prospec
tor" deals with the days before the smelter
superseded the prospecting miner, who
panned his gold, when the country waa
peopled but sparsely and by the usual mot
ley crowd of prospectors, cowboys, ne'er-do-wells
and fortune hunters. Into this
wild, free-and-easy country Ralph Connor
Introduce an eastern college graduate an
athlete and a man's man always. Impelled
by the highest of motives this man sacri
fices home and friends and mother at the
altar of stem duty, but never for a moment
does he lose a spark of his sterling man
hood, but Introduces to these westerners a
necessary muscular Christianity In defense
of the weak or In upholding the light.
Fleming H. Revall company, publishers.
"Rolf and the Viking's Bow," by AUen
French, to a story of Iceland, remarkable
for Its clear presentation of human im
pulses ungnlded by spiritual Influences. The

Norsemen are wound together In a tale of
great Interest. It Is a book to stir the
blood of the' boy. Beautifully bound and
elegantly printed by Little, Brown ft Co.,
Boston.
"The Mysterious Beacon Ught, by
George E. Walsh, is the story of how four i
boys spent their Taxation on board of the
Northern Star in the Arctic ocean, off
Labrador. Two years before the Nancy
Brown had been lost very mysteriously.
The Nancy Brown belonged to the father of
one of tha boy sailors, as did the Northern
Star also. Of course the boys found the lost
ship safe and found and brought it home
after many hair-breadth escapes. A most
thrilling and interesting tale. Illustrated
and handsomely bound. Published by Little,

The new Restnol art calendar for 1906 Is
one of the most beautiful calendars ever
issued. Blx sheets of heavy enameled paper

"Little Miss Dee," by RosweH Field, Is
the story of how- Agatha Dee, deprived of
