The principal business of the executive
committee of the Commercial club at Its
regular meeting Tuesday afternoon was the
selection of tho standing committees which
are necessary under Its organization to
carry on the work, and the approval of
the plans of the entertainment committee
for an entertainment and smoker Fridny
evening. The club is looking forward to
this party with considerable enthusiasm.
It Is Intended for a sort of reunion and
revival. The new members of the club
will be given a chance to meet the old
members, and men who have fallen out
nf touch with the active- affairs of the
organization are to be routed out and
coaxed Into line again. The entertainment
Is to begin at 8 o'clock Friday evening.
There la no telling when it may end. Carl
Relter and Frank Dunlop are to be the
official entertainers and everyone else 1
expected to turn lose and do some volunteer
stunts.
In presenting the committee to the
executive committee. Chairman Judson
said;
In making these appointment I have en
deavored to fill the committers with good
worker and to give representation to all
the different lines of buwlness On ac
count of our great Increase In member
ship I thought It bewt to Increase the
number of members on the different com
mittees, and have also added one or two
extra committees that are necessary for
effective work. I call especial attention to
the committee on public affairs, which
committee will take up matters of a gen
eral character Wiat come before our club.
Heretofore there have been a number of
Important matters come up that could not
be acted upon by a smaller committee and
I have tried to make this committee large
enough and Influential enough t take care
of any matters that may be brought be
fore the club.

CLEARING THE BRANDE1S SITE
Building Being Torn Down to Make
Room for the New Retail

The buildings which encumber the site
of the new J. L. Brandels & Sons bank
are being removed. They were purchased
for Rohrbough brothers of the Omaha
Commercial college by Shlmer & Chase;
who have charge of the destruction. The
beat of the material will be used In the
new business college which Is to be built
t Nineteenth and Farnam streets, and
that part which is not found suitable will
be resold. The workmen had Intended to
take down the two flats at one time, but
because of the occupants of the old Glen
calrne not moving out, only one double
flat i being worked on. The occupant of
the other building is holding out on a
lease which doea not expire until May 1.
The Seventeenth street corner building Is
till occupied, but will be torn down in a
short time. E. O. Hamilton is removing
the wooden barn back of the New York
Ufe building. The excavators will com
mence their work for the Brandels build
ing as soon as the brick and debris have
been removed.
Holiday Hoars at Postofflee,
The postofflee will oheerve today as a
holiday. The general delivery window will
be open up to 10:30 this morning and will
tken close for the remainder of the day.
Two carrier deliveries will be made in the
business district this forenoon and but one
In the residence district.
All of the offices in the federal building
will be closed for the transaction of busi
ness today for the entire day.

DEATH RECORD.
Mrs. Lnln Rosen.
KEARNEY, Neb., Feb. a. (Special Tele
gram.) A message was received this morn
ing announcing th death of Mrs. Lulu
Pickering Roach, formerly of this city,
which occurred at her home in Brainard
at 7 o'clock this morning. Deceased had
reoently undergone an operation and had
been sick for a couple of weeks. Her
mother and sister left for Brainard last
night but It is not thought they could
have reached there la time to see her alive.
Mrs. J. Hendershot.
HEBRON, Neb., Feb, 21. (Special.) Mrs.
J. Hendershot died this morning of grip,
aged 79 years. Mrs. Hendershot, with her
husband, came to Hebron thirty-five years
ago. Her husband was past owner of the
townslte of Hebron and held many offices
of trust. She leaves seven sons and daugh
ters with a host of friends to mourn hor
loss.
Two A red Men.
RICHMOND, Ind., Feb. 21. Two remark
able men have Just died In Indiana. One
was Anthony Watt of Connersvllle, aged
82, the oldest member of the Elks in the
world. The other Is Henry Krueger of
Boone county, who served In the German,
English and American armies and who
saw the famous charge of the Light brig
ade. His age was 84.
Anthony Hnddleson.
TRIMBHLLB. Wis., Feb. 21. Anthony
Huddleson, aged 101 years, the first white
settler in Pierce county. Is dead at the
home of his grandson near here. Mr.
Huddleson was bom In Virginia and was a
direct descendant of the family of which
Daniel Boone was a member. His young
est child is 52 years of age and his oldest 80.

ATLANTIC, la., Feb. . (Special Tele
gram.) Mr. A. Gardner, aged 64 years, and
at one time editor of the Democrat, died at
his home In this city at midnight last night.
Ills death was caused by a stroke of apo
plexy suffered about a week ago. The
funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at
2 o'clock at the residence. '
