CITY HALL ROOF LEAKS MUCH
Board of Edocatloa Rooms Are Dam
aged by Water that Comes
Through from Above.
Water leaking through th roof of the
city hall has ruined new paint on the ceil
ings and walls of th Board ef Education's
small assembly room snd the offlc of the
superintendent of Instruction. The painting
was done last simmer at a cost of $ron.
after about $5,000 worth of repairs had been'
made to the copper roof and assurances
given by the city authorities that there
would be no more leaking, which in th pest
had caused much, damag on th top floor
at tha city hall. Alf Bugh, th superin
tendent of the building, ssys that th leak
age Is due to heavy accumulations of snow
and Ice on th roof and is not caused by
defects tn th roof; further, that It cannot
b prevented under the circumstances. As
much of the snow as could b removed, la
his opinion, without injuring the copper
roof has been shoveled off, but water still
creeps through. Superintendent Bugh ex
plains thevmatter by saying that the accu
mulation of snow and ice caused water te
back up over the sheathing around the
chimneys and other projections, thus mak
ing It possible to seep through. He ha
planned to run a system of steam pipe
around th roof, which he thinks alii ob
vlate th difficulty In th future.
