This new slate makes several changes In
that offered by Commissioner Brunlng.
The nw resolution was offered aa
an amendment to Brunlng's by Commis
sioner McDonald and was adopted by the
votes of Chairman Kennard, McDonald and
Hofeldt. The latter Is the democratic mem
ber and had not figured In any calculations
heretofore made on the appointees. Evi
dently Messrs. Kennard and McDonald took
Hofeldt In order to beat the Brunlng slate.
When the new resolution waa presented
Brunlng asked that It take the same course
as Vhe previous resolution making appoint
ments. Chairman Kennard refused to en
tertain this request, holding that the vote
should be taken on the resolution as an
amendment to Brunlng's resolution. This
ruling was sustained by the vote of S to 2,
and the new officers were thus confirmed.
Two Who May Wot Accept.
Emmet O. Solomon, now named as an as
sistant county auditor, was slated for the
position of auditor on the list laid over last
Saturday. His friends consider It hardly
likely that he will accept the subordinate
place.
There la no certainty that D. M. Haverly,
named for deputy auditor, will assume the
duties of the position. Commissioner Mc
Donald said that he had not seen Mr. Hav
erly for month or more. From other
sources it Is learned that Mr. Haverly is
supposed to have gone to Denver to take a
good position about a month ago. It would
seem that his appointment was brought
about by friends on the board who did not
know of Mr. Haverly's absence from the
city, or who may have assurances that he
will come back to take the Job.
The positions of engineer and day fire
man at the county poor farm were not in
cluded In the two slates offered by Com-
mlssloner Brunlng, and neither was that
of engineer at the courthouse.
J. II. Classman was on the original Brun
lt?g slate for county agent. In, the new
deal he replaces Samuel Hoff.
Commissioner Trainor secured the ap
pointment of Dr. Davis as assistant county
physician by a separate resolution after
. the adoption of McDonald's list. He and
Brunlng also have a Janitor apiece to
their credit. Hofeltd's was the deciding
vote, but he seems to have got no appoint
ment His satisfaction is understood to
come from seeing certain men on the first
slates left off the new one.

Plain and Fancy Skaters Will Com
pete for Prises at the Auditorium.
' The first contest In plain and fancy Skat
ing at the Auditorium, will be put onV to
night. This contest is open to amateurs
only and prises are offered for the best
lady skater, the best gentleman skater
and the best couple. The points will be
ease and grace of movement, 60 per cent;
speed, 25 per cent, and fancy movements, 25
per cent. The prises for the single entrees
will be a pair of ballbearing skates for the
best lady skater and the same for the best
gentleman skater. The couple which car
ries off the prize will be given a check
lor $5.
The entrees up to last night were as fol
lows: Miss Marie Shane: Mrs, Ada Barnes,
211 South Twenty-fourth street: Mrs. C. R.
Thlem, 2127 Farnam; Miss Augusta, Smith,
221 South Seventeenth street; Charles A.
Krause of the Bennett company, Clinton
Hlgby, W. H. Homan and C. H. Oetchell.
The couples which have already entered
the contest are Mrs. Cuscaden and Clinton
Hlgby, C. H. Oetchell and Miss Lembke.
Several other couples will undoubtedly
enter the contest. I
Manager Qlllan will select Judges who
are in no way connected with the Audi
torium rink. The lady contestants will
skate first and will all appear on the floor
at the same time for a period of tan min
utes. The gentlemen contestants will have
a like period in which to show their ability
and the couples entering the contest the
enms.
The contest will begin promptly at 9
o'clock. .
