the week of 275 ul bushels. The primary

The cash demand continues poor again,
but Chicago reports sale of 30,'"J0 bushels.
Minneapolis elevators sold In the last two
days l.oOO.vm bushels to millers, Plllsbury
taking 6no,uOO bushels, mostly low grades.
Kansas City reported sale to Minneapolis
millers of l&O.OuO bushels.
While the cash market In corn and oat
has been dull since January 1, the ship
ments have been larger than last year, es-
Fecially oats, which have been moved out
reely by the cereal Interests. On this grsde
1.416.000 bushels have been loaded out of
store since the first of the month snd of
other grades only 4S.0O0 bushels. Standard
oats to the amount of 700,0u0 bu. have been
moved out of private houses and 350.000 of
other grades. The standard has practically
all been delivered on January contracts.
Last year 26.ono bushels were withdrawn
from store during the same period and 352.
OoO bushels standard and 554. OOo other grades
were Inspected out of private houses. The
receipts of oats have been 3 035.000 bushels,
against 1,000,000 bushels for the same period
last year. The primary receipts of corn to
day are 47S.O0O bushels, against 394.000 bush
els last year, and the shipments are 207,(XO
bushels, against 601,000 bushels.

Reflecting the conditions at Liverpool the
whtat market here was easy at the open
ing. May started H6tc off at $1 lf.v1l
1 lieVc. The decline abroad was said to
be due to Increased shipments from Aus
tralls. At the start there was considerable
shattered selling, commission houses and
pit traders being prominent on that side
of the market. The slight decline, how
ever, brought out a fair demand from
shorts. In consequence there was soon
a firmer undertone, Msy advancing to
$1.1. Receipts In. the northwest today
were quite small ifnd news of the cah
situation at Minneapolis was rather bull
ish. A revised estimate made by an Eng
lish crop expert regarding the xportble
surplus of wheat from Argentina and
Australia materially reduced former fls-
ures. This gave some anxiety to shorts
and resulted in additional covering. Trad
ing, howevfr. was comparatively light
throughout the entire session. The market
closed firm with May at $1 15'V Clear
ances of wheat snd flour were equal to
54.300 bu. Primary receipts were 43.000
bu.. compared with 536.1Y bu. a year ago.
Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago reported
receipts of JS1 cars, against 441 cars last
week and 23 cars a year ago.
Selling by cash houses and scalpers
caused a rather weak corn market. The
selling was due Isrgrly to lower cables
and Increased acceptances In the country.
Mav opened unchanged to Ho lower at
4SU445Vc. sold off to 44MTHSC, closed at
45c. Local receipts were 248 cars, non
of contract grade.
Larger receipts than expected were
partly responsible for a slight decline In
the price of oats. The market was also
affected by the weakness of corn. Trad
ing was very quiet. Msy opened a shade
to V? lower at 3ie31eo, sold between anke
and 3mo and closed at 3oc. Local re
ceipts were 74 cars.
A decline of 10c In hog prices started
moderate profit taking In provisions and
resulted In lower prices throughout the
list. At the close May pork wss off 12H9
ISc at $12 824. Lard was down 7Hc at
K95. Ribs were off 24tc at 34.S2H-
Estimated receipts for Monday: Wheat,
33 cars; corn, 345 can; oats, 120 cars; hogs,
63.n0 head.

which Is sensitive to development in the
northern Securities case wss the feature

was the central figure and broke through
the restraint which has hed It below $1 -D
snd was rushed up to fl.21V The transac
tions on the rise were In enormous volume.
St. Paul responded vigorously and sensa
tional advances were made by great North-
; em preferred and the Chicago A North
western group. Northern Secrltles In the
curb market was rushed up several points
above its previous highest price to the
neighborhood of $1.66. There were very
large transactions in Erie throughout the
session, but that stock encouraged very
heavy profit taking. It has been the pro
fessed expectation for several days past
that the decision of the supreme court In
the Northern Securities esse would be
handed down at Washington on Monday,
Beyond this ttere was nothing to explain
the excitement regarding these storks.
The tone of the general market showed
strength but by no means in the same de
gree a In this special group. The greater
activity which developed after the appear
ance of the bank statement was probably
r.ot due to Its showing, although ths gain
In cash reserves was much larger than
was promised and the loan expansion hard y
as great as was expected. With gold
going out In a stream because there was
no adequate use to be found for it at this
center, any accumulation of banking re
serves here bad little Importance. The
strength and activity of a large number
of obscure industrials wss still a feature
today. Outside of buoyancy In the tran
sactional group the, market closed slightly
Irregular.
