The recently appointed charter revision
committee la busy looking up newer data.
What Is wanted I facts and figure pit
taltilnK to sewers In Hip city outside of dis
trict newer.". Tin district sewer are or
have he n paid for by property owners and
are not considered at all. What la wanted
by the committee Is to ascertain the num
ber of feet of sewers constructed by the
city and the cost paJd by the voting of
bonds. While this committee Is working
on records In the city clerk's office Hoy
Towl, an assistant of Kngineer Andrew
Kosewater. Is working on data In the room
provided for the purpose. It Is estimated
that at least liSu.OOO will be needed to con
struct a complete newer system In South
Omaha. The plan now Is to have the legis
lature pass a hill permitting the mayor and
council to Issue bonds to this amount, with
out going through the formality of putting
the proposition to the people to vote on. Just
what a complete sewer system will cost
has not been determined and will riot be
known for several days. It Is understood
that the bill Introduced by Senator Gibson
for IXO.Oort sewer bonds can be amended
after the estimate mnde by Knglneer Rose
water Is made known. As soon as the esti
mated rout is made public a committee will
go from here to Lincoln to advocate the
passing of the measure.
Teatlns; Ciroand for Koondatlona.
A number of tests of the ground where
the new grain elevator Is to be constructed
here have been made. While the ground Is
solid It was stated yesterday that piles
would be driven In order to secure a foun
dation that would stand the weight Thirty
four piles will be driven and then a bed of
concrete Is to be laid. On top of this the
elevator will he constructed. The engineers
In charge of the work stated yesterday that
the contract for excavating will soon be
let. There Is little excavating to be dons
and this work can soon be finished. When
completed the grain elevator will be 1SB
feet high and will have a capacity of over
l.nuO.ono bushels of grain. It Is the Intention
of the Updike company to push the con
struction as rapidly as possible In order
that the; elevator may be completed not
Inter than June 1.
This big elevator Is being built on track
age about 1,200 feet north of the L street
viaduct.
Retail Merchants' Association.
A meeting of the Retail Merchants' as
sociation directors was held Monday night
at Fugles' hall. It was decided that the
association will give a banquet to business
men at Eagles' hail on the night of Feb
ruary 13. All business men will be Invited
to this banquet. The price per plate Is
to be 60 cents. A number of applications
for membership have been received and
'II be acted on at the regular monthly
meeting of the association. While the di
rectors meet every week there Is only one
regular meeting of the association each
month. All applications for membership
are looked over by the directors and are
submitted to the association monthly. An
effort Is to be made to Induce every busi
ness man in the city to Join the associa
tion and assist in boosting South Omaha.
John Klynn. one of the prominent busi
ness men of the city, said yesterday that
It was time for everyone to lay aside his
hammer and get Into the boosters' wagon.
Workmen Install Officers.
Lodge No. 86, Ancient Ordor of I'nlted
Workmen, Installed officers at the temple,
Twenty-fifth and M streets, lost night.
Grand Master Workman Jacob Jaskelek
Installed the following officers: A. K But
ton, master workman; Dr. Faulk, foreman;
J. J. O'Nell, overseer; C. M. Rich, flnanceer;
C. W. Miller, receiver; J. W Jordon, re
corder; B. W. Bennett, Judge. After the
installation a banquet was served. This
lodge of Workmen is the largest in the
state, having at the present time some
thing like 860 members.

It Is reported that tickets for the hospital
charity ball to be given at the exchange

The street cars were blocked for a time
yesterday afternoon, owing to the derail
ment of a big car at Tweniy-foui th und 4
streets.
Evangelist Karl Klaus will conduct a
mission at the German Methodist Episcopal

PLAN FOR SPRING "CONCERT
Ben Stanley Already At Work For Ilta

Arrangements are already under way for
the concert to be given in the Auditorium
the first week In April. Ben Stanley said
last evening that it Is the Intention to fur
nish a chorus of 3u0 voices to assist in the
concert. The work to be presented depends
upon the conclusions to be reached by Mr.
Innes and Mr. Stanley. It is understood
that an oratorio and a selection from Wag
ner's "Parsifal" will be given and the band
will present "War and 1'eace," one of Mr.
Innes' own compositions, us a feature of
the program during some night of the en
gagement. The chorus will probably be
