Notwithstanding extreme weakness of
wheat the corn market neia quite nrm.
The main supporting factors were higher

Selling of Mav by cash houses caused an
easy tone early In the day, but sentiment

In sympathy with tha break In wheat th
oat market ruled a trifle easier, but the
downward tendency waa checked by ex

NEW YORK. Xov. T8.-An Irregular
movement of prices of stocks today re
fleeted th mixed profit taking and new
speculative campaign going on. Stocks
which were whipped up Into rapid advance
last week were sold to meet the new out
side demand attracted by these develop,
ments. At other points there were new
rspld advances and large dealings. Specu
lative interest and enthusiasm were dem
onstrated to be awake and eager and the
day'a business at the Stock exchange waa
large ard varied.
The actual news affecting property values
w-as not plentiful or Important and was
very little regarded. The one point in th
general situation to which Importance
eems to be sttached Is th money market.
Rates were not appreciably relaxed today,
but offerings seemed sufficient at the rates
ruling to satisfy the principul demand.
The buying of stocks accordingly proceeded
side by aide with the selling to reallxe,
sometimes In the same storks end some,
times in a wsy to csuse divergent move,
ment In different stocks. The day's de
velopments pointed to exemption from fur
ther withdrawals of gold from European
account. The price of gold waa reduced
In Lnminn and sterling exchange rose at
Berlin and Paris, while weakening here.
Helling of stocks here for London account
did not arreat the downward course of
sterling exchange. Rates for loans her
were reported Arm. but did not rise above
4 per cent for thirty days to six months.
Railroad officials reported a further large
expansion In traffic, but -trie grain move,
ment continues small and corn Is still
hackward. There were some violent ad
vance Irl th southern trunk line stocks.
Iron and steel Industrials were strong, with
Cnlted States Steel preferred the only Im
portant exception rnd It was sold per.
slstently. ;
Amalgamsted Copper win weak, but re
eevered strongly. The Pacldra and west
ern railroads were under rather pronounced
pressure and there were hackward points
here and there In the railroad list gen
erally. Pennsylvania was In active de
mand and Missouri Pacific, lias a good ad
vance. Otherwise the day's principal gains
must be sought In the list of specialties.
The market closed Irregular under th ln
fluence of a late rlac. in call money rata

Bonds were Irregular. Total sales, par

CATTLE There was a liberal run of cat
tle In Kansas City and Chicago this morn
ing snd advices were not very favorable
to the selling Intereats. The supply st
this point, though, was rather moderate,
and with a goon demand from all sources
the market ruled fairly active, with deslrs
able grades of cattle selling to good ad
vantage. There were so few cdrnfed Steer on sale
this morning that a fair test of the situa
tion waa not made and nothing strictly
choice was offered. Buyers, though,
seemed lo be anxious for anything at all
desirable and the market could safely be
quoted ateady to strong.
Receipts Included aulte a lew western
range beef steers, but the quality was not
very good. Still, packers took hold quit
freely and th market could be quoted
strong on the better gradea, with others
sbout steady. As trading was quite brisk,
It waa not long before th bulk of th
offerings was disposed of.
The cow market was rather slow, with
the feeling week. A Urge proportion of
the
receipts
consls
sieu ot
cows, and that
gav packers a chance to pound the mar
ket. Something strictly choice may not
have been much lower, but th general
market could best be described by railing
It weak to a dime lower. Salesmen did not
like the Idea of taking off, and as a re
sult trading wss not very active.
Bulls were rather weak, but veal cave
did not show much change.
Speculators carried over very few desir
able storkers and feeders from Isst week
and aa a result thy were all anxious for
fresh supplies this morning. The better
grades were active and strong, with some
sales a little higher than the same kinds
brought last week. The commoner kinds
were not very active, but still they com
manded ateady prices. Representative
sales:

I HOOS Ther ws an enormous run of
hogs In Chicago thla morning, about 83.0O0
being reported. The market there broke
1 $4i inc. and that, of emirae. caused price to
weaken here, even though receipts were
i not excessive. Peckers started in trying
to buy their droves a nickel lower, and a

Some of th erly sales and also th com

were moderate this morning, for th time
of yesr. The quality of the offerings was
not very good and that fact doubtless
had a tendency to make packers rather
Indifferent and bearish. Tho market on
fat sheen could best be quoted by calling
it stesdy to a shade lower. Some sales
were steady, and on the other hand, others
looked a trifle lower. Lambs sold In just
about th same notches they did last week.
Trading was not very brisk and as a re
suit it was a little late before everything
In sight waa disposed of.
The demand for feedera was fully equnl
to the aupply and the market could safely
be quoted fully ateady. - All desirable
grades changed hands In good seaaon.
