ulE OMAIIA DAILY BEE: SATURDAY. NOVEMBER 2G, 1904. GRAB ANB PRODUCE MASIET Lighter Trad, but Prices for Cash Wheat ind Futorei Art Higher. ARMOUR SAID TO BE THE HEAVIEST BUYER Vrt Aboat Point Hlf her Cora rimer Receipt Art Llktr Goaslp from Pits aad Wall Street. OMAHA, Nov. 25, 19o4. Armour was the chief factor In the wheat rnurket today. Ills house was reported as having bought culls on l.flm.tao. bu. of May wheat and advising; friends to get on the lms; side of the. market. Liverpool prices were 1 point higher ami the receipts fir the first time wore smaller than last year. Dtspita these favorable influences there was not so much activity in wheat as might liiive been expected. There Is a large spec ulative Interest that does not follow Ar mour and this Interest was keeping aloof from the market. As a result It was a rather quiet and comparatively stendy mar ket, the fluctuations rclng within point. December opened at $l."9Vi, nn ad vance of r, broke to Jl 09' and then turn ing to Sl.luW. dropped off to tl.4. with an Improvement thereafter to Sl.OtV May opened c higher than on Wednesday and nfter selling at $1.1' broke tc, then recov ered to 11.11, off to $1.1H and hnck to $1.11. Most of the Interest was In the May future and the volume of business In July was also materially Increased. Tbls latter option (tallied n and was firm throughout. ' OokiIkl cash sales were light. There was a fair demand for wheat, but the offerings were not large. A car of high-grade No. 3 linrd, testing 614, pounds, sold at $1.08, which is practically 2c higher thnn the, siime grade would have sold for i AVednesday. The car was exceptionally good In quality and cleanliness. In sympathy with wheat and lighter re ceipts the market for corn was considerably firmer, but not materially better as to price. At one time December was an ex ception to this latter statement, for It ad vanced nearly a full point to 60Vic, after sielllng at 9ct, but a part of this advance whs loot before the close. May was corn parattvely steady. Omaha Cash Prices. ' WHEAT No. a hard, $1.0601. The maintenance of the minimum discount r.itc of the Bank of England, the lack of apprehension to the demnnd money market here and evidence of steady Improvement In Industrial circles were among the contributing factors 1o today's strong and active stock market. United Slates Steel Issues were the letd ers, the preferred and common shnres, together with the sinking fund bonds, mov ing to new high records for the present movement. The continued absorption of these bonds at the higher level was In excess of 17.000 nm. uhli h was believed to break all records for a day's dealings ln any uiuivmuai ooni on ine eiws. rvnnuRc and was nssunied to be for Investment account. As proof of the better state of the steel and Iron trade It Is only necessary to cite today's advance of $.1 per ton In bar Iron by one of the Independent com panies. That this advance has been, or will be followed bv kindred companies ad mits of little doubt. Out of town banks and other flnnnrtal Institutions were lender of money on rail In this market todny. Fof Iondon account some 50,000 shares of stocks was bought. After an Irregular opening, prices for a number of active Issues, chiefly Amalga mated Copper. Sugar and Pacific Mall, took a decided drop, the result. It seemed, of market manipulation. Recoveries were quite general by noon, a number of specialties participating In the improvement. Save for some moments of hesitation, the market held strong throughout the afternoon. Lit tle Increase of commission business was noted until tho fln-tl hour, wnen the gen eral list was bought. Henv'v buvlng of Reading, attributed to Philadelphia denvnd stimulated buvlng In the other coalers. The steel stocks and stocks of similar Independ ent companies resisted further gains. The most marked exception to the gen eral rise was Union Pacific, which was under pressure nil dsv and made a net fractional decline. Transactions In the steel shares which mde net gains of 1. and 4'4 per cent for the common and preferred, respectively, ainrregated almost rne-thlrd of the day's total operations. The ateel bonds led slso Into the bond market several huge blocks changing bands. Their net advance was 2 per cent. The minor steel and Iron stocks advn"nced 1 to 3 per cent. I ike gains were made bv the coal shares. Elsewhere In the active (1st material gains on the day were scored by Illinois Central, Great Northern preferred and Erie.
