raised the return made by the corporation

turn for 1906, therefore, Is $146,268 more than
last year, and Is presumed to be accounted
for by reason of the new switchboard and
other equipment.
The aehedule give the value of personal
property assessable in Omaha at fcSS.OuO,
and the franchise at I34lj, based on the
groaa receipts for the year. Of the re
ceipts 169.846 la accredited to toll lines and
foKl.iTJ to the local exchange.

The board will consist of W. I. Klerstead,
Joseph M. Baldrigo and Tax Commissioner
Fleming. Owing to the fact that Mr. Kler
stead has served before he probably will
bo made chairman.
The tax commissioner has announced that
this year all buildings on leased property
will be assessed direct to the owner aa per
aonal property, Instead of In connection
with the land. This is done in order to
comply with specific directions of the new
revenue law. Heretofore buildings on prop
erty on long-time leases have been taxed
against the landowners, who arrange with
the lessees aa to the tuxes.

la trying for an Injunction In Judge Troup's
court against Robert Haacker to prevent
him from continuing to do business under
the name. Regent Shoe company. The
plaintiff company was formerly the Rich
ardson Shoe company until it was brought
to- this city last aprlng from Iuwa. The
members of the company claim the exclu
sive right to manufacture shoes bearing
the name "Regent." Haacker hus sold
Bhoes of that name In Omaha for six years
and has always bought them In the east
from other makers. The two firms have
been getting the mall and freight of each
other and are in for a fight to a fliu.h.
