from the police to district court on the
charge of forgery preferred by O. P.
Shrum, foreman for Contractor J. H.
Harte. In the Information Hied by As
sistant County Attorney Maguey It was
alleged Taylor obtained possession of a
check belonging to Shrum, the amount
being fc.9U. Taylor was churged with
ndorslng Shrum's nam on the paper and
securing the money a( the grocery store
of N. I. Kelson, Twonty-fourta and Luke
streets. Taylor was formerly an employ
for J. H. Harte and was working on a
new church at Eighteenth and Cuming
streets at Ui time the check wag said
to have been taken from Bhrum's coat.
When asked what he had to say for him
self the prisoner said ha not the man
who took the. check, but ha was quite
grilling to square the matter in soma way
to save any further trouble. Taylor was
arrested last Monday by Officer Samuelson.

Extension of Limit Granted by Judge
Monger to Strikers Convicted

Judge Munger yesterday Issued an
order extending tba time for the payment
of fines imposed upon the strikers recently
convicted in tba United States circuit court
for contempt of court In violating tha terms
of the Injunction issued by him to restrain
the strikers from Interfering with strike
breakers. C. J. Smyth, attorney for the
strikers, orally argued a motion for a stay
of execution, in which ba asked that tha
strikers ba given time to earn the amounts
Imposed by the fines. v
THREE GO TO PENITENTIARY
Two Highwaymen and One Grand
j Larceny Convicts, All Negroes,
Sent l'p,
Alfred Mosley and Louis Jenkins, were
each sentenced yesterday by Judge Pay
to three years and six months penal
servltudo at Lincoln. Tha two were ar
raigned and pleaded guilty to the charge
of highway robbery. The prisoners are
colored men and on September 24 held up
Joseph C. Clark and took Sla from him.
Oscar Lawrence was another man to get
tienltsntlary senteaoe. Ue pleaded guilty
to larceny from the person and drew one
year. Lawrence took (30 from Archie
Harvey, September 13.
John MeReynolds was arraigned for day
light breaking and entering and pleaded
not guilty. He Is accused of entering tha
house ot Wiliam Washington July 27 and
taking goods and money to Uie value of
nearly 1100. Joe Polaro, a clrous man who
was brought here to answer to the charge
of assualt with Intent to do great bodily
injury, also pleaded not guilty. He is ao
oused of cutting Kate Harvey dangerously.
Clyde Foy was brought up for burglary
and entered a plea of not guilty. He Is
sold to have taken a bottle of whisky
from the shop of A. Tlmerman.
MARKS WINS A HARD FIGHT

LONDON. Oct. 8.-Harry Marks, chief
owner of the Financial News of this city
and a former New York newspaper man,
has been elected to represent the Isle of
Thanet in ths House of Commons, though
by a greatly reduced majority, succeeding
the late James Lowther. The figures were:
Marks (conservative), 4, Ml; King (liberal),
S.6C2.
Tha campaign was marked by violent per
sonalities throughout. The dissident union
ists vied with the liberals In appealing to
the electors to uphold the principle of tha
Integrity of public life rather then party
success. The liberals, however, claim that
although many of their party abstained
from voting, no treat Bumbir et rissJdent
unionists carried their seal for purity In
publlo life to the extent of voting for Mr.
King.

LONDON, Oct $.-(Speoial Cablegram to
Tha Bee.) The visit ot the prince and prin
cess of Wales to India has been condition
ally Axed for October next year.
In view of tha royal visit a special train
has recently been completed at the carriage
works of tha East Indian Railway company
at Lllooah. It has cost 20,000 and engaged
the attention of hundreds of native work
men, under European supervision, for three
months.
It consists of eight saloon carriages, six
Of which are seventy-two feet long, and are
carried at each end on six-wheeled bogle
tracks. The remaining two, forming the
front and rear brakes, are sixty-two feet
louz.
The total length of the train Is 556 feet
t Inches and Its approximate weight is 300
tons.
WITBOIS TRIBESMEN IN ARMS

BERLIN, Oct. .-Fresh trouble has
broken out In German Southwest Africa.
The Wltbols tribesmen, who had hitherto
beau faithful to Ike GwuMuia, in revolt.
Governor Leutwoln, In telegraphing ' this
news to the government, says the Wltbols
have attacked the station at Kuls, on the
Flsch river, and are reported to bo at
tacking the station at Hoachln.
As all the Wltbols, who were with the
German forces at Olbeon have deserted and
envoys have gone to tba Bastards, another
tribe, to urge them to rise, tha revolt of
the Witbois Is a serious matter since they
had hitherto been loyal, had supplied
recruits for the native troops and were
relied on greatly as scouts. No explanation
Is given of the present discontent.
CARNEGIE MILLS TO RESUME
All' Departments Will Start, Giving;
Work to Two Thousand
Men.
PITTSBURG, Oct. 8.-An order was Issued
today by the Carnegie Steel company an
nouncing that every department of the
Homestead plant will resume operations to
morrow night. This will give employment
to 2,000 men, swellln the number employed
at the Homestead plunt to 6,000.
It Is said thut orders aggregating 10,000
tons of structural material are responsible
for the resumption.
