There la considerable uncertainty In the wheat markets ot the world, a tightening of th lines lor nearby deliveries and a dis position to reduce the discount on the !ar .y futures '1 he shipments at coast nieat from Washington, Oregr.n and Call irnls. Is sure to be quite a factor In the uture of price Armour of Chicago la also a factor of prime importance, the firm waa a liberal seller of 4sy anil buyer of December. The general trend of the news la on the Rente line ss heretofore, except that thera ia more Inclination to the belle that the advance ha In a measure dis counted the unfavorable condition. '1 he fears of fro . damage to the torn crop have been dlsetpated by the returr. of seasonable weather anal the general nea regarding tha probable safety of the crop. From now on It wiil bins largely on the slse of the crop. An Interesting budget of estimates la published below showli.g the variety of opinions regarding the yield. Jones, the tirst of the statisticians to cry abort crop of wheat the man who more than . all others was taken as authority places tils figures fur below the others It would seem that sn Indicated crop of ;J.SO0.tj.ww busix-:s Is within the possibilities. This Is - not enough to make com go much lower and present prlsea are exeeUetit for farmers and elevator men. Tbe admitted shortage In wheat Is an added stimulus to corn. There seemed to be an especially good demand for September wheat. It Is guite within the pre1liliiles that there are some horta still out ia this future for it bus eight days yet to run. Heoelpts are still quite large and this Is causing some un easiness on the part of the bulls, although they are confident that the time Is near at hand when the receipts will show a niA tene! falling off. sv-ptember wheat opened at $1.0r'S. n aJ var.ee of He, sold to $1.08 and reacted to H.OS.J. December was the strong future, selling at II lt to $1.114. as compared with a close at II.U-H yesterday. It held but c of this advance Into the afternoon. May opened c higher at 11.12. sold to I1.12H ard then off to II. UV In the last hour of the session the wheat rottrket became wildly excited mid posi tively strong, with the shorts tumbling over enih other In a frantic effort to buy in and with numerous buying orders from sellers of calls who found themselves Hi trouble une more. The unexpected excitement was tho result of a report, probably true be tat.so of 1U effect, tha the French gov ernment hMd voted to admit wheat Into Fiance free of duty. This sensational -news startled tho trade, as it was an emphatic announcement that tbe French crop was short and that tbe French- nation also real ised that the American crop ws short and thiU, It would be well to g busy Importing at once. This news acted like a bombshell cast Into the grain pit. September shorts showed the- greatest uneMinesa and ad vanced the price of the delivery to 11.11, or tvc higher; moved up December to 11.13V or JVtc, and May, the least affected, to 11.14V nrtlr rise. Total . t .1.710 4.763 CATTLE There was a moderate run of cattle here this morning even for a Friday, and as packers all seemed to have liberal orders ta fill the market ruled fairly active and generally steady on anything at all desirable In the way of killers Most of ths trains arrived In good season so that good clearance was made at as early an hour as could be reasonably expected. Several bunches of corn-fed steer ar rived, but the quality of most of the cattle wss only fair and nothing strictly cholc was on sale. The market could safely be quoted steady, and as compared with a week ago. there is also but little change. The supply has been light all the week and the demand for desirable grades) ha been sufficient to hold prices steady. Western range beef steers were very scarce this morning, but those that did arrive sold at steady prices. From the way packers acted they were anxious for good stuff, and anything answering to that de scription might have sold a little strong. As compared with a week ago the choicer grades are safely 1016c higher, but the commoner kinds - hav not shown much change. There was a good demand for cow stuff this morning and prices held fully steady with yesterday. There were o few on sale that the market soon came to a dose. As compared with a week ago the market Is still a little lower, though a dime would cover the decline In the majority of ease. Some of the medium kinds may be off a trifle mdre than that, but on the other hand strictly choice cows and also canners have not shown very much change. Bulls veal calves snd stags sold in Just about the same notches they did yesterday. The demand for feeders was limited this morning the same as is generally the case on a Friday and prices a trifle lower. For the week good heavy feeders are loiEfDOc higher snd active, but common and. light cattle are certainly no more than steady, and some of the common stockers are. very hard to move at sny price.
