In both games the Denver delegates es
Niped a shutout by one run, the score in
the second game resulting from Brown s
error. Tho run In the first game, made by
Hop. tetter, was earned.
Hostetter waa touched up for nine hits,
but Kenna, the smiling target, who has
proved about the easiest In the league for
Omaha, waa rapped for ten safe ones. Mr.
Kenna, mindful of the two unmerciful drub
bing ha sustained here at the hands of
Omaha earlier In the season, was loth to
enter the box yesterday, and got Just what
he feared, a sound thrashing.
The first game waa ganders against Hos
tetter Co. ganders opened the game by
striking out the first three men up. Father
McHalc being caught asleep at the plate
by one of Bandy's quirk return'. Several
others during the game were caught off
their guard by Sanders' rapid-transits. The
first three Innings of the ilr:t game were
profitless for Fa's colts, but In the fourth
Welch started something by making a
home run. sending the ball over the right
field fence. This tied the score. Sanders
made a run In the sixth, and In the lucky
seventh every member of the Omaha team
had a time at bat and they made the
most of their opportunities. The seventh
yielded four hits and five runs, one man
being left on a bae when Dolar. made the
third out on a left-field fly. In the sixth,
when Sanders, Thtel and Carter made suc
cessive hit. Th I el was called out at the
plate. Welch went to first on a fielder's
choice,' the ball being thrown In from
Smith to Lucia to catch Thlel, who then
wrangled with Umpire Kelly over the de

and wrenched his left - shoulder, but waa
able to pitch In the rext game.
Second Worse Than First.
. In tho second game the Denver players
managed to grafter their hits over and by
dint of good fielding' by Omaha the vis
itors were found to a large extent on bar en
t the end of the Innings. Thirteen of the
westerners were left on bases in the second
same. Like the first game, Pa's boys
opened up -In some particular Inning and
cut a wide-swath, The sixth inning waa
the bright particular spot. Ten men at bat
was' the record made In that Inning, with
six runs and five hits.
In the fourth Inning Thlel made a home
fun oil a bunt, Kenna, who was rattled,
throwing wild to first base and allowing
the boll, to roll past the east bleachers.
Altogether yesterday afternoon's victories
Was a source of much gratification to local
fans, who were out to the number of 1,300
notwithstanding the cool weather.
Hallrnan was out of yesterday's games
owing to a strained knee.
Pitcher Leibha.dt. signed by Manager
Rourke last spring and farmed out to the
Rock Island Three-I league team, was on
the grounds yesterday afternoon and will
be with the Omaha team the rest of the
season. He probably will be seen In the

Speed Program One of the Interesting;

YANKTON, S. D., Sept. 14. (Special Tele
gram.) Perfect weather prevailed at the
State fair toduy and the attendance was
Immense. The entries In all departments
exceed by 2,000 entries uny past year. In
the first attempt to leap the. gap Prof. Cua
talano got a bad fall. The hind wheel
failed to clear the gap and the rider was
thrown fully twenty feet. Though bruised
he made a second attempt, which was suc
cessful, as was his loop the loop. In the
agricultural department Hughes county has
a magnificent display. This exhibit is,
doubtless, the best In the department,
though Faulk county has a very creditable
exhibit of grains and grasses.
