BroomhHl! says: "Disappointment In ac

quiet opening; prices Sd lower. Further
loea of vd occurred In December, but later
both months advanced to d over opening

sensationally small estimates on Manitoba
and American spring wheat crops, a strong
undertone developing.
Corn 1'nexpectedly large Argentine ship

CHICAGO. Aug. 2f The course of wheflt

Wheat wss extremely nervous throughout
the s-selon. September started 'ifilc

lower at lmtilov. The weakness whs
sttrihuted largely to nonappearance of

to the support of the market and In a few
minutes September wheat had advanced

Henewed taking of profits resulted In a
sudden decline. Soon Septemler was bark

At these prices another bull wave overtook

were recorded. The strength attending this
reaction lusted until the close, floral huoIm

Corn opened fractionally under the prevl

Liiiulilation by southwest holders soon
brought about a further decline to 4! and

believe that pronaniy trie corn crop naa
been overestimated, and these seised the
opportunity to take on long lines nt the
decline. This started prices back toward
the opening figures and with the Improve
ment shorts hastened to cover Mtelr sale.
Then the wheat upturn added Its Influence
and the advsnce continued until Septem
ber corn touched B.'ifcc and December 8210.
The close was firm at W4 and 6H. the re

profit-taking sales. Local receipts were 304

(Juts In a genersl wsy followed the course
of the corn market, although trndlng was
without dlMlngulshlng features and price
changes were within a very narrow ruiiKu.
Commission houses had oats for sale, but
declines from such selling were taken ad
vantage of by the shorts and a steady
feeling prevailed. September starting Hfl'e

CATTLE There were only about 40 carj
of cattle on sale this morning, a targe pro
portion ot .trie arrivals being coiuisoeo.
either direct to local packers or - ui.led
ihiough. Owing to the light recelp.s and
to a good ueinana trom packers, it only
took a short time to effect h clearance.
The market on corn-fed etetrj cjuld
ralely be quoted steady and active on de
sirable grades. Some sales. In fact, may
have been a trifle stronger. The ligt.t cut
tle, however, or those that were of only fair
quality were none too brisk and only about
steady. The uemand is best fcr good,
heavy cattle and such kinds aie fuily lof.m;
higher for the week. Light cattle have
shown very little improvement, 'lliere Mm
been considerable unevennesn in the mar
ket all the week, as would naturally te ex
pected with light receipts ana a rapidly
advunclng market.
There were hardly enough western Rrass
beef steers on sale this morning to make
a test of the market, but they could be
quoted steaoy. Owing to the moderate of
ferings all the week, prices on weatemt
Stave improved fully as much as on corn
feds.
The cow market was about steady todiv
and the few that arrived sold 'reidlly
enough at yesterday's prices. Light re
ceipts nil the week and a fair demand have
caused prices to move upward at a rapid
rate and a gain of 2o3."4r for the week In
noted. The few canrors that have arrived
for the last several days have also been
saleable, whereas a week ago there waa
no demand for them.
There was no particular change In the
market for bulls, veal calves and stags).
The Blocker and feeder market was not
very active this morning, ns would natur
ally be expected at the close of the week.
The few that arrived, howevor. sold In
much the rame notches they did yesterday.
