THE OMAHA DAILY BEE: WEDNESDAY, AT'OT'ST 10. 1904. OMAHA TAKES FOURTII CAME I Walk. Awsj with Everything In Sigh from Oolorado Spring. BOTH PITCHERS ARE UNUSUALLY WILD Home Team Piarhra Its Hits wltk with the Blander of the Visitor and Wlm In a. Walk. When fa Rnufae and his family of lusty ' critters go after anything In em-neat they Just plow up the earth and cut cross-lots and heavy firing can be. heard In the offing, There was dome firing for three sueces- diva afternoons on the Vinton street stamp Ing ground, where the Omaha base ball team touched up Jimmy Ryan of Colorado Springs and his bunch of purscproud Mil lionaires for four straight games. And rumor has it that this afternoon's game will make It five and that the western twlrlers will leave the Gate City under heavy pall. While yesterday's game developed noth - Ing that will go down In history, yet the Omaha children were there with the g'ad hand at critical moments, made nix runs in the first four Innings and kept the Ryan regiment down to two runs. Several times during the game the Colo. rado patients began to Hit up and take nourishment Take, for instance, in the first half of the ninth, there were three on bases and only one out. Radcllffe and O rah am made good en hlta, while Ander son read his title clear on first when Nlll went out on a fielder's choice, Congalton came to bat. Pa figured It up that there was only one out, three on bases and that a home run would tie the score. Pa took a drink of water and puffed up. Con sent a terrific foul fly which Qondlng caught in a most hazardous manner against the . grandstand. Oondlng was cheered and promised a raise of pay some day. Two outs and still three on' banes. Pa kept smoking .up and Kahl came to bat. He sent one of those Cripple Creek risers over to the right field and thought Carter would be figuring how old Ann is, but Carter made a run that, would make. Paul Re vere's nocturnal "sprint look like a slow mule race Carter caught the ball on the run, making three 'cuts and still three on banes. Then Bobby Caruthers dismissed the meeting. .". . . . Carti't Tonrh the Rnbbrr. The Springs insurgents tried In. a, similar . manner to do things in the fourth inning, but like the ninth, had three men asleep : at the switch when Dr. Caruthers called the third out. It was peculiar that in the fourth, although Pfelster allowed three men to travel the primrose path to first, those same three individuals were doing picket duty on their bases at the end of the in ning. Kahl, the first man up in the In ning and who walked, was unable to score even after flv men had come to bat after him. ' But the Colorado Springs, boys did make two runs in the fifth. It happened like this: Graham and RadcllfTe walked; Congalton and Kahl went 'out; Ryan mad a hit and Graham and Radcllffe coo red. The Omaha boys started after R. Gra ham at the tap of the gong and succeeded In getting eight men up In the first inning. Three walked, three got to first on fielders' choices, one hit the ball and went out to center field. Out of the, wreck .three scored. The local favorites tripped around the bases In the first inning like a lot of boys going to a Sunday school picnic. The first eight balls that Graham pitched in . the game entitled Thlel and Carter to tako things easy until they reached first 'and second base. Then Howard tapped the ball and got to first on art error for RadcllfTe. Thlel scored and Carter got to third on the error. Then Welch found bis way to first .on a fielder's choice when How ard went Out. Dolan walked and soon went out when Thomas got to first on still auother fielder's choice. Schipke made a hit and Carter and Welch scored. Three scores and two left on bases and all over for that inning but the nolne. Graham then slowed down until the fourth, when Carter and Oondlng scored after having walked to first. Pfelster made the other run in the second, when he was passed to first on Thornton's error, coming home on Thlel 3 hit From the fifth Inning on Gra ham kept Pa's cherubs down to one hit and no runs. Welch made the only hit of me uay mar. was worth more than first base. Attendance, 1,000. The score. . OMAHA.' AR R. H. PO. ..... 8 111 A. 0 0 4 0 2 1 3 . 0 S Thlel. If Carter, rf Howard, 2b . OMAHA, Aug. 9.-To the -Editor of The Bee: At last It looks like Omaha was to have a real automobile race meet. The swiftest machines In America with their drivers will be at St. Louis this month, and ftre scheduled to leave there August 21. On Aug-ust 26 they are due at Detroit, and It Is now up to Omaha to ret them here between theae two dates. The local dealers and automobile enthusiasts are right In for It and are willing to go Into their own pocket, If neceaeary, to get the machines here. The races would be held on the mile track at Council Bluffs, and In all probability extend over -,wo days. Barney Oldfleld, who is now driving a Peerless racer, could be had and also Win chester with his Franklin racer, and It Is pretty certain that Webb Jay with his racing White Steamer, and the Pope Toledo racer would also be on hand. We have a fine track here and with these racing machines and their drivers so near us it would show a lack of enterprise to not have' them here on their way to Detroit. A mile a minute is gnaranteed by theee racers, and faster running cannot be seen on any automobile track In Amer ica. This meet could be made a big thing fur Omnha. It would attract Imnioima crowds from all over this state and Iowa. . THE RAMBLKK AU iumumhis uu. Endurance Baa Ends. kv.xv YnrtK" Aur. 9 F. A.
