DE3 MOINES. la., July 23. fFv'-lal' Tel
egram. )-J"maha made It two straight from
the I'olltlclans In a frame In which they ob
tained a lad at the (tart. Morrison wts
n B!jr prey to the determined onslaught
of the visitor anil the six runs they
straightened out of his t later tided them
through to a winning despite the gallant
work of Lefleld, who succeeded him efter
the fatal fourth. Bhugart's absence ne
cessitated the substitution of Thiel In the
Infield and George Clarke In left, a mis'
fortune whic h aUed, the visitors In a minor
degree.
Quick was In good shape during the early
portion of the contest, but the hard work
he had done told on him and he wss re
moved for Drown In the ninth after a hit
and an error had put the local men on
dangerous ground. .
As yesterday, the visitors stiirted things
In the first. A base, on balls gave Carter
life and Welch's double got two men on
bags, Dolsn's single scoring both. The
Second wns obligingly paHsod, but wus
only the delay Inevitable for single by
Howard nnd Miller, a two-bugger by
Thomas; coupled with a fielder's choice
and an error by Ilofmnn In handling
Schlpke'a hot one netted three runs. Quick's
double and Carter's and Howards singles
made it six In the fourth and Morrison
was retired.
Two cratch hits by Welch and Dolan
and a pass to Oondlng filled the baaes In
the ninth, but this was not consummated
until two outs -were mado and nothing
came of It. ,
With Morrison's Innings eliminated It was
a speedy game, the visitors outplaying the
locale everywhere. Attendance, 1,600. Bcore:
