Declare it was because of gross abuse s, Shlpmeats Mar Have t T.mmi. Tadee Bllllag Ce)rryll Loeal Kmtm (root (loath Omaha Destination. Bontn Omaha ltve stok dealers are about to have one of the bet "concessions" polled by the action ot the western trunk line railroads. It. ft. Kimball, joint agent of the Western Trunk Line committee, wii In Omaha Tuesday and called a meeting of the local representatives of the western roada for the consideration of the question f discontinuing accepting: through billing On live stock tn case where it changea ownership on the South Omaha market. Thle matter ha been discussed by the railroads for torn time, but It is under gtood that Chicago representative of west am trunk lines have agreed to withdraw the privilege and that cattle aold on the South Omaha market will have to go east under billing, which will carry the local rate from South Omaha to the point of destination. This action, when It Is effective, will have the result of raising the rate on all ship ments of stock to the oast from 2tt cenis to 11H cents per hundred pounds over what they are at present, the advance being gov erned by the originating point from which through billing has been used. It 'has twen known for some time to the railroads that stock dealers in South Omaha have been manipulating the billing on shipment east. In cases where cattle were bought that bad anlved on local bill ing the purchaaer who denlred to ship them to Chicago would simply secure a through bill covering another shipment from some point where there was a broad difference between the sum of the two local rates and the through rate which would result In making the unpaid portion of the freight east of South Omaha light and represent the cattle which he had taught In the South Omaha yards to be fhe same which had coma In under the thrtugh billing, In thta way saving a large part of the local rata between South Omaha and Clhcago. Foar It May Distark Rebate. It la understood that aom of the roada are unfavorable to the adoption of the new rule because it will reault la the stopping of one of the favorite metliods ot giving rebates to. shippers. . "The ultimate loss will fall pon the ship per of live stock to the South Omaha mar ket, a -he will have to accej t a less price for hi cattle or hogs. Just nough less to make up the difference between the east ern proportion of the through, rat and the local rata.'.'' aald a live stock man. A leading railroad man saAd: "It 1 simply the old story of working a good thing to death. ' Live itock shippers worked the free return trip paaa until the railroads arose In their wrath and withdrew the privilege, although they dd have to re store It under restriction, anr) the shipper are doing the same thing with, this through billing proposition," "In - some cases the profit on through billing 'amount to 125 per car, but this Is about th maximum, and it would range . down according to the billing used." While it I understood tht.t the trunk lines In Chicago have agreed to th adop tion of the new rule, which fa already In effect In Kansas City and St. Joseph, local representatives have not yet received no tice a to the data on whlcb It la to be effective her. Dismiss Nartkweetera Case. The board of director or th Omaha Grain exchange ha decided, in view of the faot that all that wa asked in th bil) filed ha bean granted by th North western, to dlsmla th suit entered some time ago In th United Bute court agalmt that road to compel It to make proportional rate on grain from .Omaha to Chicago.' Th suit was filed at the tin th grain rat war wa on among the various line entering 'Omaha from the east. Th. Northwestern had refused to mike propor tional rate on grain from Omalia to points aat after all other line had tone so. It Insisted ueon maklns throue-h rates from point west of th Missouri river less than th sum of th local rates to the Missouri river and from th Missouri river to the east. This resulted In all the rrrain orig.
