Major Matthew Leepere, , formerly con
tract surgeon at Fort Crook, died middenly
at Olen Cove, N. T.. Just two weeks fol
lowing his return from the Philippines,
of illness contracted in the islands.
Major Leepere was formerly a lieutenant
In the Fourth United State cavalry, re
signing from that regiment a number of
year ago. During the Spanish-American
snd Philippine war he was appointed a
major sura-eon In the United States volun
teer and was mustered out some two
year or more ago. Shortly thereafter he
wss given an appointment In the ' civil
medical department in the Philippines and
there contracted an.lllneas that resulted
in bis death. He was about 50 year of
age and will be well remembered in Omaha
from hi services at Fort Crook.
