The week ha been a quiet one oclally,
and were It not for several popular vis
iting women, society would b practically
nt a standstill. Mrs. W. J. Foye. who waa
one of Omaha's popular belle, has had
many delightful affair given for her and
Mi Hlgglnson's guest, Mis Conger ' of
Watertown. N. Y., who arrived last week,
has also been entertained several times
and has made many friends already. Bev

who are the guests of Dr. and Mrs. Conner.
With so many charming strangers, , the
outlook In society is not a dull one, for
Omaha women are notod for' their hos
pitality and delightful affair In honor of
visitor. 'if
Tomorrow Is the glorious Fourth and
whlls no general celebration ha , been
plaved. such as used to be a feature of
every Fourth in Omaha, many Jolly parties
are being arranged to celebrate In the good
old-fashioned way with all kinds of fire
works. Many people prefer to go out of
town for tho day. while other Intend to
spend the day' at picnic at Manawa, Court
land Beach, Knag's park or In the country.
Many event have been planned at the
Field and Country club. At the former
the Country club team will play the Field
club golf team in the morning and In the
afternoon there will be a golf contest for
the members, a tennis tournament and
ball game. In, tho evening a dinner will
be served to be followed by firework and
a dance. At tho Country club there will
be a golf match in the afternoon for the
handsome cup presented by C. N. Diets,
and a, table d'hote dinner and probably-
dance In the J evening. .
Just at present the most popular place
in Omaha are the Country and Field club.
Place for dinner at bcth places are al
ways engaged far In advance for Saturday
evening and the dance are always
crowded, while every evening ee the
plasaua thronged with visitor. Last even
ing at the Field club large dinners were
given by, Mr and Mr. H. W. Wood. Mr.
Herbert Howell and Mr. Joseph Barker,
' while many small parties were given. At
the Country club Mr. and Mrs. W. T.
Burn entertained! for Mr. and Mrs. W. J.'

appointed dinner at their home lost even
ing. The table was attractively decorated
with Crimson Rambler roses, and was
laid for Miss Stebblns, Miss Anns Stebblns,
Miss Chapln, Dr. and Mrs. F. N. Connor,
Mr. and Mr. Laurie Chllds, Mr. George'
Patterson, the Misses Connell and Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Connell.
A bowling contest, the first in a series
to be given during the summer, was held
at the Field club Monday afternoon. The
first prize, a pretty picture, was won by
Mia Leila Sciibner, who had a high score
of 148, and the second, a hand-painted cup
and saucer, by Mrs. G. W. ' Manchester.
The contestants -were Miss Edith Webb,
Miss Grace Conant, Mis May Welsh, Miss
Edith Conant Miss Leila Sciibner, Mr.
Adam, Mr. Mclntyre, Miss Pauline Mills,
Miss Laura Dale, Miss Hallle .Patterson,
Mrs. Dunn, Mrs. Manchester and Miss

One of the prettiest of the summer' af
fairs waa the lawn party given Friday
evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Burns, 8024 Cass street, by the B. B.
B. club, an organization composed of forty
young men, who entertained about the
same number of young men. The beauti
ful lawn was brilliantly Illuminated by
about 200 Incandescent lights, and dainty
refreshments were served at small tables.
The evening was pleasantly passed with
informal amusements, a feature being an
original guessing contest planned by Miss
Selena Burns. ,
One of the most charming affairs of the
weelc waa the muslcale given Friday even
ing by Captain and Mrs. Reynolds and
Miss Reynolds at their home in Florence.
The house was beautifully decorated for
the occasion with cut flowers, the parlors
being trimmed with carnations and roses
and tho dining room with sweet peas. The
program, which consisted of selections by
Miss Beard, Miss Fawceti, Miss Reynolds,
Mrs. Urquhart, Mr. Cuscaden and Mr. E.
M. Jones, -was enjoyed by about 100 guests.
Captain and Mrs. Reynolds, Miss Reynolds,
Mr. Harold Reynolds and ' Miss Beard re
ceived and were assisted by Mr. and Mrs.
H. L. Porterfleld, Mr. and Mrs. W. E.
Palmatler, Miss Hazel Connell, Mr. Ed
Crelghton, Mr. Paul Haskell and Dr.
Powell.
One of the most pleasant affairs of the
week waa the surprise given Mrs. J. N.
II. Patrick on the occasion of his birthday
last Tuesday afternoon. A number of old
friends laden with many remembrances
of the occasion and a bountiful lunch went
out to Happy Hollow, where they took Mr.
and Mrsj Patrick completely by surprise.

breakfast was served to the relatives at
the home of the bride's slater, Mra. W. P.
Cobry. Mr. and Mrs. Maynard left for a
trip to the World's Fair and the east, and
will be at home after July 15 at 2008 North

was that of Miss Delia McDermott and Mr.
William Robert Moran, which took plice
Monday at high noon at Holy Family
church, the ceremony being performed by
Rev. Father Fitspatrlck, assisted by
Fathers Geary, Dolan and Cavanaugh. The
bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Wil
liam . E. Welsh, and the groom by hia
brother, Mr. Arthur Moran. The bride was
