The day f apemy on th local Grain
xcnang indicate plainly that speculator
did not overspeak themselves wnen they
declared that tha new and advanced freight
rates would cast a damper on biwnmn
during tha latter part of tn preaent Boon to.
Itmandi are pour and tha market ta ex
ceedingly quiet. Jul I how lone thla sort
of thing will continue la not very hard to
tell If wet weather doesn't Interfere with
July harvesting. Activity on the 'change
during tha mludl and latter part af tha
coming month la easily predicted oa the
floor.
There waa a considerable amount of
fluctuation In priced of corn and wheat,
but on tha whole business was painfully
dull. Wet weather coming so near to
harvest time had a tendency to work prices
up a trifle, but demand was absent.
wheat opened generally higher on strong
cables aod axcessiv rales In tha south
west. Corn waa steady momentarily, but withal
was dull and soon slumped lower at Chi
cago oa the cash aituatioa and liberal re
ceipts, vocally prices were maintained
and cloaed a trifle up. But lethargy
marked this market, too.
Oats were absolutely dead. Demand waa
Suite an unknown thing and there aeemed
ttla or no disposition to buy at any price.
No caah sales of grain wara recorded In
the local market.
Tha prediction of frost In tha western
part of tha state tonight had a tendency
to make prices In all lines ruls well at
the close, but sales were few.
It waa reported that Minneapolis Itocka
of wheat had decreased JKOuw buibels thla
Week.
Weather played tha moat Important part
hi the dolnga of tha market today. The
weather map shows heavy rains la Ne
braska. Iowa. Kansas and Missouri. Two
Inches ot rain were reported from Kansas
City and a heavy precipitation at Con
cordia. McPheraon and other points. Frost
Was experienced at Rapid City and raina
In other points of South Dakota.

CAi'iut--There wer Just a tew odd
bunches of catU her Mia morning, so
that a fair tan of th market was not
mad. For the weak receipt hav been
lignt, ther being a decrease a compared
with laat wean amounting ta about 2.WU
bead and aa compared witn th sum week
of last year there la a tailing off of about
7,000 head. Other point, though, hav haa
liberal aupplle and aa the demand ba
been aomawhat our tailed, th tendency tx
price ha been decidedly downward.
Th beet steer market baa been very lr
reguiar all tha week. There haa been a
good demand for weli-flnlsned steers, how
aver, and price ar not over locjuc lower
than th high time last week. By that Is
meant cattle that aall from to.80 to 34.13 or
better. The fair to good cattle, or thoae
thAt sell from 85.00 to 36.75. ar 264ft0o lower
And th warmed-up, corn-feds and greener a
ar uf76o lower than th nigh time, tsucn
cattle sell from $4.36 to 84.75. Th demand
for tha grassy and warmed-up steer 1
vary limited, the tarn a 1 generally the
case at this Urn of yar. They do not kill
out at all satisfactorily and aa a result
packers take them only when they can get
them at a low figure.
Tha cow market also suffered In baa
snap this week. Prices started downward
th latter part of last week and continued
It this week. Th good to choice corn-fed
ar only about tutf46o lower than th high
tlm. Referenc is made to the class of
cattle that sen from 34.90$4.rjo, and some
thing strictly prim In th way of heavy
cowa and heifer would sell higher than
that. Th fair to good corn-fed?, or those
that sell from 83.60 to M OO, ar 4i30o lower,
and cutters and grasser which sell from
SI. 35 to 13.00 ara quoted Tto to fl per hun
dred lower than the high time lact week.
Canner ar not over too lower In most
case and Mil from 81.50 to 43.25. Thee
grassy And common cow are selling to
very poor advantage, the same as Is th
cas with steer of that Class. Packers
take them only when they cannot set
enough cf th mor desirable grades to fUV
tneir oraera,
There has been a good demand for th
better grades of Corn-fed bull and uch
kinds ar not more than 1031 &e lower
than the high time Inat week. Grassy
bulls and common stuff of all kinds nr
fully itrrSo lower. Bologna grades sell
from 33.26 t 83 50, grass lull from 22 50
to 43.25 and corn-fads from 83.80 to 84.40.
Veal calve a re about steady for th week
and sell largely from 34.50 to 85.50.
Stockera.and feeders hav been In very
light supply and the demand has also been
limited. Farmers seem to be too busy
with their crop to pay much attention 10
buying atock cattle at thla time. Strictly
choice grada ar about steady for the
week, but undesirable grades are very dull
nd weak. Good to choice grade sell from
about 13.74 to Kit. fair to good from 83.50
to 38. Tt and common stuff from 13.60 down.

HOGH There was a moderate run of hog
here this morning and prioe Improved a
little. The general market wa around
2Ho higher, with th better grade that
both shipper and packer wer anxious
tor THtlfc-o higher. Trading was not par
ticularly active, as buyer war slow to
bid th prices, a thy wanted to get their
drove for llttl mor than steady prices.
Salesmen held on, though, and the bulk
was disposed of In fairly good season at
frioe about Pa higher. After buyer had
heir mor urgent order filled they were
a llttl mor bearish and th close, If any
thing, Wa alow and weak. The bulk of
th hog sold from 25.12H to 15 17fe. with
th cholner load largely from 85 20 to tt.iA:
top, 85.27. Th light and common stuff
went from 88.10 down.
For ths week receipt bar been rather
light. A4 aom pared with laat week, there
I a falling of amounting to about 6.000
head, and as compared with the same
week of last year, ther I a decrease cf
about 7.0OO head. In view ot the light re
ceipt and activ demand from all sources
tb tendency of price has been upward
and there la a net gain for the week of
about 20tdP2tr. , Representative sales:
