The Omaha market reflect the extreme quietness of the Chicago exchange Just at present, but the prospect In there will be something doing ail along tne line within a ahort time In view of tne. favorable crop conditions that are reported from nearly ail Important points. H. V. Jones, who In completing a third, and for this year a final, survey of. the 8K nation, saya that in the west It Is now rounding so that a lair gauge of the pros pects may be taken and that on the whole I ho outlook Is decidedly favorable. While corn Is generally a llttlo-late It Is up nicely and In nearly all sections, particularly thoe cast of the Missouri river, there are less weeds than for many years. Illinois looks well and so does Iowa, Nebraska and other big corn states Itt Michigan, Ohio and In diana the acreage-Is very largely increased. 7 he weekly government reports say that corn at all points has made rapid growth during the last few days and that a general improvement gives things a, bearish appear ance. ... Speaking of wheat, Chicago Is very dull, out good weather will move new wheat to the primary markets within a few days. Cash prices show a dally shrinkage. The ccrn market Is Just as dull as the wheat, for with receipts fairly good the demand Is Hot up to It. Speculative forces seem about at an equilibrium and therefore the market moves only moderately either way. The next crop futures In oats jhow a good deal of steadiness and the wine ones are buying father rthan sell at a discount. CHICAGO OR AIM MARKET. Bis Decrease la Visible Wkeat alr ' Readers Itacatery Bear Advices. CHICAGO, June 21. A big decresse today In the visible supply of wheat almost saved a severe break In prices, the result of bear ish crop advices. At the close September wheat was down only a shade. September corn la up Mi'ic, oata gained c and pro visions i&lyc. There was good supporting Influence In the wheat market. As a result, the Initial quotations were a trifle above yesterday's clone, July being a shade to 4c higher at B4VyXfc. September was up a shade to rao at 80&&0o. Pit traders however, were Inclined to the selling side, and on the slight advance sold freely. A number of bearieh factors soon came Into prom inence, with the result that the market be came extremely weak. One of the main Influences In this respect was the weekly weather bureau report, which pronounced all conditions favorable. Another element was the report of the Kannas secretary of agriculture, making an estimate of 83,400. OuO bu, as the season's production for that state, compared with 87,000,000 bu. lsst year. Advices from Kentucky, where harvest Is In progress, said that from the appearance of cut wheat the yield will be larger and the quality better than last year's crop. Re ports from the northwest regarding the ap pearance of the nprtng wheat fields were of a flattering kind. Before the selling pressure abated July declined to &3e and September to 79c. During the latter pert of the session there waa active covering by shorts on a decrease of over 1,000,000 bu. In the visible supply. The demand became till more urgent with the announcement of a decrease of over 2,000,000 bu. In the world'a available stocka. Late In the day offerings became quite scarce and In conse quence prices were easily forced up to the opening level. Sentiment was firm at the clone. July closed at 84c, September at 79c. Clearances of wheat and flour were equal to 121,700 bu. Primary receipts were 279.600 bu., compared with 888,200 bu. a rear ago. The visible supply decreased 132,0ii0 bu. while the world's visible sup ply, according to Bradstreet's, showed a de crease of 8,2ui,000 bu. Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago reported receipts of 217 cars, against i lai ist week and 360 cars a year ago. Early in the session sentiment In the corn pit was decidedly weak, liberal receipts and the easier tone of cables bringing out con siderable selling orders. Western Interests sold freely on the report of a Minneapolis Crop expert which claimed favorable condi tions for oorn growth. A sharp rally oc curred toward the middle of the session on buying caused by estimated small receipts for tomorrow. Light primary receipts also helped strengthen the situation. The mar ket closed strong and near the high point. September opened unchanged at 48c, sold beiween 48o and 49o and closed at 48 48e. July closed at an advance of c at 4HS'3Hc. Local receipts were 694 tars, with 76 of contract grade. Heavy receipts and excellent weather con ditions cauaed free selling of September oats by scalpers early In trie session. The result was an easier undertone. Later In the day there was considerable buying on the estimated small receipts for tomorrow. The market closed firm with July at SfSc. September opened c lower, at 31&31o, old between 81c and 82c, and closed at the top. Local receipts were 192 oars. Provisions were firm on small receipts of hogs and on higher prices at the yards. The market would have shown much greater strength but for the fact that a prominent commission house was an active seller. At the close Beptember pork was up 7 Vic at 313.80. September lard closed 10c higher at 87.25. Ribs were up 710o at 37.72!r7.75. Estimated recelpte for tomorrow: Wheat, 18 cars; corn, 18 cars; oats, 72 cars; nogs, 84,000 bead. . NEW YORK STOCKS AND BONDS Market Drifw at Timot, witk Ftriodi of Entirt IdlDis UNDERTONE CONTINUES TO BE FIRM Immobility of talon Paelae After Recent Feverlsk Flnetnatloa is Featare ef m Unlet Market. NEW YORK, June 21.-There was little more than a drift of prices of stocks to day. Interspersed with proceeds of entire idleness, not Inappropriate to the summer salMtlce snd the tradition of summer du 1 ness In the stock msrket. If any effect was produced on sentiment by the begin ning of the convention season of the great political parties dullness was the only evi dence of It In the market. The subject waa little discussed. The undertone con tinued firm and there were spots of special strength which helped the general tone. The Canadian Pacific group was a conspic uous example, that stock and its sub sidiary companies making notable advancei on buying attributed to Canadian account and accompanied by reports of large prohts from land, sales and possible chances of an extra dividend, circulated without men tion of any official authority. London prices of Americans came higher this morning, but without much effect on the opening prices here. London also turned seller here promptly, especially of South ern Pacific. The Immobility of that stock and of Union Pacific were features of the market after their recent activity and . feverish fluctuations. This quietude waa rather re assuring than otherwise, as the disposition to sell Southern Pacific since the announce ment of the preferred stock issue has had a' depressing influence on the ' whole market. Tho event of the day in which most Interest was shown was the publi cation of the weekly bulletin of the Weather bureau on the country's crop. The very favorable reports of both the winter and spring wheat crops caused a break in the wheat market and Induced some buying of the grangers stocks. A rise of In Atchison measured the ex treme of the movement. The condition of the cotton crop as re ported by the Weather bureau was less satisfactory and ra'lled the cotton market. The condition of corn and oats waa not shown to be fully maintained. The move ment of anthracite coal was said today to be still very large, and it was alleged that extensive storage of the steam sixes was made necessary by the continued output of domestic sixes. The strike of tailors was of no direct effect In the stock mar ket, but it was not much relished as a slg-n of labor discontent and gave some added effect to the reports of further measures of retrenchment by the Pennsyl vania. The further absorption of United States Steel preferred at an advance of had an excellent sentimental effect cn the general market. It was practically the on!y stock whose highest price was maintained, the closing showing recessions, but with a fairly steady tone, Bonds were firm, but rather dull. Total sales par value 32,375,000. United States bonds were unchanged on call. Following were the quotations on the New York Stock exchange: Onen TT1 trh T.nw ninmm. Anything outside of the prime grades, tnoiigh, waa slow and un evenly lower, but tne decline In the major ity of caaes would be covered by lotjioc. Cattle showing the ettecU of grades were almost unsalable at any price, as they haye not been killing out to good advantage. As compared wlin the high lime last week ripe cattle are perhaps not over a dime lower, but pretfy good dry-lot cattle are all the way from r6i0c lower, and grass cattle, or those that have been on grass and corn, are bOGfloo lower and very slow at the decline. ' . , . The cow market was also in bad shape. Strictly choice dry-lot stock would prob ably have sold not far from steady prices, but such kinds are very scarce. All others were safely 10(B16c lower and very dull. As compared with the high time last week all except choice dry-lot stuff Is right around 76c per hundred lower and In ex treme cases grassers are nearly $1 lower. Not only that, but packers do not geem to want them even at this great reduction, as they say they are not killing out at all well and lose them money. Except for the choicer grades of dry-lot bulls prices have suffered about the same as In the case of cow atuff. Veal calves, though, have not shown much change. There were Just a few odd bunches of ttockers and feeders In the yards, snd while the market was certainly no higher, it did not seem to be any lower. The de mand la still limited.
