CHICAGO, June 4. The University of Michigan today won the . Intercollegiate Conference Athletic association meet held on Marshall field, ; securing pi points. Cht cago was second with 29 points and Wis consin third with a total of 20. A large crowd was In attendance and much enthus iasm was manifested. Six new Intercol legiate conference records were made and two of the old marks were equalled. In the weight events "Giant" Rose of Mloh igan broke -the conference record In the shotupt, establishing ,a new mark at 47 feet, Inch, and beating the old figure held by Klrby of Notre Dame by nearly six .feet. In the discus throw also Rose set a new mark, hurling the weight a dist ance of 12S feet, SM Inches, which Is almost seven feet better than the record made by Swift of Iowa, v' One 6f the surprises of the meet came with the announcement that Thomas of Purdue had outdone Rose In the hammer threw and Incidentally had created a new record. Twenty feet was added to the former record held by Pell of Drake col lege, the new mark being 157 feet, 1 Inch. Fuhrer of 'Wisconsin broke the record for the high jump and in the broad Jump Friend of Chicago set a new mark. In the track events a strong wind was a severe handicap to record smashing, but Breltkreuts of Wisconsin succeeded In lowering the record for the half mile run, held by himself. The finish of the mile run was one of the most spectacular seen on Marshall field In many years. Pwrdae Maa Wlaa. Verner of Purdue won ty a yard after he seemed entirely out of running In the last lap. Perry of Michigan and Sleeper of Drake put up a game fight fur second place, but Sleeper finally won by a few Inches. In the luO-yard dah, Blair and Rice of Chicago and Archie Harm of Mich igan had a wildly exciting raoo. The finish was almost a dead heat be tween Hahn and Rice for first place, but the latter managed to cross the tape an Inch or two In advance. Blair was a close ! third. In the final heat of the' quarter mile dash, Waller of Wisconsin, after fin ishing third wag disqualified for Inter fering with Blair of Chloago. Kellogg of Michigan maintained his repu tation as Um unbeatea Was; distance run of Our Clothing For genuine goodness is due to the fact that nothing but reliable garments are allow ed to become a part of our stock. The Leland Stanford team, which had come from the Paclflo coast to enter the , contest, failed to show up as well as expected, landing only one first. Dole of that Institution carrying away the honors In the pole vault. He crossed the bars at 11 feet (V Inches. Although cred ited with a praotlce record of over II feet, Dole was unable today to beat the Inter collegiate record of 11 feet, 11 Inches, held by Dvorak of Michigan. The result of the meet was In doubt almost to the last, Michigan, Wisconsin and Chicago vising with each other for first place. Chicago Is Disappointed. The Chicago contingent expected Blair ( of that Institution to aaa nve points to Chicago's totals In the hurdle, thus put ting the score of the two rival universi ties on an equal footing. Much to the embarrassment of the Chicago rooters, Poage of Wisconsin easily captured the event and by so doing won the day for Wisconsin, Score: Michigan, 83; Chicago, 29; Wis consin, 26; Purdue, 11; Stanford, 9; Illinois, 8; Indiana, 4; Drake, 3; Oberlln, 1; Iowa, 1.
