NO BULL CAMPAIGN POSSIBLE NOW Wkt Market Doll Xo Local Steals tloa MlMoirl and Kansas d Good Grata Report. , OMAHA, June 1. 1904. Never wttbln late years hat there bwn a season when there was bo lime export business In whent as there is nils year. it year the shipments amounted to be tween 4,uoO,OuO and 6.ii.'i bushels sold lor July, August and September oireot to Eu rope. This year only J-o.ijim bushels have been sold, and this amount to speculators, ho hop lor & later demand on the otner side. ' y The cables havs not quite followed the advance here and the market Is narrow. There Is supposed to oe no great short In terest and the small stocks make the spec ulators nfrald to sell the grain, so a small buying sends the prlre up. A bull campaign In any grain seems to be out or the question Just now. Whlie considerable of the corn Is replanted, the wheat prospect is Improving very rapidly, and the old grain In the farmers' hands his been more than was expected by the trade. The shdrts have Jargfly covered and there Is apt to bs no considerable buying until some bullish circumstance develops. The Missouri crop report gives no change In wheat condition, this being 81, against 6 for last year. The corn has Improved from 8 to 10 points, being now 70. as against 74 for .9(3. Of corn planting 75 per cent la finished. The Kansas report Is aid to show winter wheat in good condi tion in eastern and central Kansas, but co to be suffering from too much rain. The group of low grade non-dlvldend papers whlcn suffered trom liquidation yesterday was neglected. Specialties dealt in were Inclined to recover. The general market was inert and the day's small trading did not alter materially the level of prices. Within the narrow fluctuations of the day the tone differed from time to time, but the undertone was heavy. The news of the any was not Important The announcement that the Plttsburir. Cleveland, Cincinnati St St. Louts had dis charged men to the number of 1,100 to re duce expenses was an influence In the sale direction, wall street regards with eo.ua nlmtty the declining tendency In the cotton market as promising a better adjustment to the needs cf the cotton Industry. But so sudden a drop as that of today and the presumed speculative losses involved Dy the throwing over of long holdings by the uncovering or stop loss oraers naa a some what disturbing effect on speculative sent! ment. The current redemption of notes through the redemption fund In ths treasury was $6,000,000, but $1,282,000 measured ths re tirement of notes by deposits ot lawiui money. Ths heavy current redemption are a symptom of the tendency of the cur rency to congest In the reserve centers the bank notes Included In this movement finding their way quickly Into the treasury and so back Into their Issue source. But the small retirement of outstanding notes affected and the large additional circula tion taken out is the result of the profit on circulation by reason of the fall in gov Ammmt bonds bv the large amount re leased by the government withdrawal of deposits with national nanus, it is leareu that some redundancy Is being Injected Into the circulation by these conditions and hi, th AiYoct of facllltatlna if not forcing the outgo of gold. All the buy ers were out at an early hour and It only took a few minutes for everything in the yards to change hands. The market on corn-fed steers was active and strong to a dime higher. A new top waa put on the market, forty head of west ern steers selling for $6.70 at an average weight of 1.409 pounds. As compared with the close of last week the market is now abont 2f.o higher on all desirable grades. A strictly fancy bunch of cattle would un doubtedly bring considerably more than $5.70. Shippers are ail going home well filcased with their returns, as their cattle rt practically every case are selling for much more than they expected. The cow market was also strong and ac ,ia ms. tar am the rielra.ble grades were concerned. There were so few offered that it did not take long to clear the pens. Com mission men are cautioning innr iumjci in innir nut for arrass cows. Packers are not at all anxious for them and are In clined to buy them lower. Such kinds are no more than steady with last week. Can ners and common cutters are also neglected and barely steady for the week. Good fat cows and heifers, though, are active and higher. Strictly choice grades are 2SQ35c higher than they were a week ago. Bulls were also active and strong, as high as $4.60 being paid. Bulls are also 25Jj:too higher for the week, with the demand very rtotlve. Veal calves are strong and higher for the week, best grades bringing $6.60. There Is nothing new to be said of stock ers and feeders. Very few arrived, but those that were offered met with ready sale at good strong prices. The market for the week Is not a great deal different, though. If anything prices are a little stronger. Representative sales: Pr. No. ' At. Vt. 7S 4 00 1141 6 80 150 4 25 17 1111 30 No. 4... A little bunch of drlve-ln, clipped lambs sold for $6 10 and that was about the extent of the market.
