NEW YOFIK. March 14-The long
pected decision In the Northern Securities
esse resulted In a feverish and 1 siting
stork market today. The fluctuations were
constant and Irregular and the volume of
business was mtitli Increased over the re
cently prevailing dally average. The an
nouncement of the decision caused a sharp
nreaa. nut prices sunsequentls rallied to
the highest of the day, which was well
above Saturday's level. The evidence of
i support In Northern Securities stock Itself
on the curb helped to rally the general
market. The tendency bframe more dis
tinctly downward ns the sweeping charac
ter of the decision became clear to the
traders.
The quiet and dullness Into which the
rrarket fell late In the dav. after the hti'ln-
tins had brought the last of the opinions
as they were read, tended to confirm an
Impression that the neceassry adjustment
to the conditions formed by the decision
hail been largely made before Its delivery.
The day's net chanaea In prices were al
most wholly Insignificant In sire and the
msrket became praetically Inactive st the
Inst. Other Influences were Ignored. There
was renewed pressure upon Metropo'ltan
steel railway, the Vnlted States steel cor
poration annus) report. In which Improved
one or sneculstion tn foreign markets he-
csm rather more hopeful tone of trafflo
oflVlala over the outlook for new business.

HOGS There was a good Monday's sup
ply here thla morning and packers started
out to buy their droves ror a utile less
money than they paid last week. Their
early bids were weak and a nickel lower
but they failed to get many hogs at those
prices, ard aa there were none too many
on sale to meet the requirements of the
trado, buyers were soon forced to ralas
their bids, and the market closed quite
active and about steady with Saturday.
The bulk of the medium and good weights
sold from 86 10 to 85.20, with prime heavies
from tfi.20 to 86 36. Ths lighter weights
sold from $6.06 down. All the early arrivals
were sold In fairly good season, but some
lats trains prevented an early clearance.

easier to sell them than was the case on
some days of last week. Veal calves showed

There were comparatively few stoekera

active and steady to strong. The better
the quality the greater the demand, but
