CHICAGO, March 4-Ru.slnn and Ameri
can reports today exactly onset the effects
of lower quotstions : from firclgn wheit
msrket. Unal figures here- on Mar wheat
were precisely the same as last night. July
was He. higher, May corn la up "a and
oats Swc. Provisions' are unchanged to
25c lower.
t'nder the Influence of lower ctblea the
wheat market opened somewhat unsettled,
with May unchanged to lc lower at 'MtV.c.
Initial Quotations on July were unchnnged
to v lower at lVWLc. Tho rnsh to se
cure wheat waa the cause of a temporary
rise to &!o tn the May delivery. The price
of luly likewise advanced to K3c. The mar
ket held tlrm until rie.ir the close, when a
decline occurred on liberal profit-taking.
Hrlcee at the flnlah were steady, with May
at 97o and July at fic, Clearances of
whoat and flour wete equal to 1M.4"0
bushels. Primary receipts were 44.9ti0
bunhels, against 401,(00 bushels. Erports of
wheat ami flour for the week were equal
to bushels. Minneapolis, Dttluth and
Chicago reported -receipts of 275 cars,
against 240 Inst week and 2S1 a year ago.
Active buying by several large commis
sion hotis-s caused strength in the corn
market. Tho close waa well toward the top
prl e of the day. May opened HtHc
lilcher, chislng at 63c. July showed net
gaina for the day of lc, cloaing at &2tc,
after ranging between Kc and Bi'Uc. Local
receipts were 1T cars, wltlj one 'of contract
gi.xle.
On good genera) buying there was a quick
lump In prtcea of oats. Liquidation by
local longs, however, nused a sharp' re
action. The. opening on May was BVja
to Vulc higher at 4vtf41We. After s'lling
between Mo and 417c, the close was at
41'c; July ranged betwe-m SSUc and 4f
ana ciosen iy higher at 3?c. Local re
ceipts were 2i cars.
Provisions were unsettled. The market
opened strong, but liberal realising resulted
In a reaction. Th feature In trading was
thj selling of May pork and a consequent
break of 50c in the price of cotton product.
T he close was steady at the' decline. ..with
May pork 25c lower nt $13.9:4. May bird

NEW TORK, March 4. Activity was
stimulated In the market today but wtth
ojt effecting any more appreciable move
ment of price than on the dullest days of
the week. L'p to noon the number of
shares traded In was not far below the
day s total yeeterday and the day before
rroin that time the market dropped back
Jnto its dull rut. Advances In Brooklvn
Tranilt ar.d In the other local traction
srbeks n sympathy were attributed to the
prospect of the new EaM Klver bridge
being opened at an early date. There
was a Slight advance In Ihe coolers on the
assumption that a soft i;oal strike would
help the anthracite business. Delaware
and, Hudson enjoyed the benefit in addi
tion to the strong showing of Its annual
report.
The reaction In the grain market was
urged as a valid reason for n rise In stocks.
The settlement upon the terms and method
of the Panama withdrawal from the sub
treasury and from, government bank de
poults was regnriieO , a offering a possible
stimulation to Investment her on, tne part
of tho French and Panamanian benefici
aries. A decline In Northern Securities on the
enrb was the reminder of the recurring
effort to be looked for from the supreme
court decision day on Monday. The move
ment of currency has been In favor of
Net York and a gain for cash for the
week is Indicated of nearly S2,000.0o0 In
spite of the outgo of gold to South America,
transfers to Chicago and absorption by the
subtreasury. This was regarded with dis
satisfaction, as showing a decreasing In
terior, upp of money. Attempts to send Bt.

pnd the report of a Burlington note Issue
helped the late rectlon. Corn Products
was liquidated freely and the c'oslng was
heavy. Bonds were rather firm, but dull.
Total sales, par value, 31.495,000. X'nltejl
States bonds were unchanged on call. . . ., 1

CATTLEr-Ther. were most too many

The cow market was,- If anything, worse

lower, but tne general mantel was rtiily
10u"?0c lower, with tomn sales as much u-a 1
a quarter lower. In other words, the hi I
