CHICAGO OIIAIX AKU PROVISIONS.
Featares ot the Tradlnar and Closlac
Prloes oa Board ( Trade.
CHICAGO, Feb. 13. Speculative trading In
the wheat pit here today, was a reflection
of the higher prices belng'pald for the cash
article in all outside grain markets. The
nirenath abroad waa alxo a bull factor. The
market closed firm with May wheat C(iSu
higher than Thursday's final figures. May
corn waa up VuV". while oals showed a
gain of lc. Provisions were easier, cloning
ixulOo lower.
The wheat pit was affected more per
haps by the strong cash situation reached
from all quartern than by any other fac
tor. The demand was principally ior the
July delivery, the congested condition of
the May option offering small Inducements
to the majority of traders. Wheat prices
at Uverpool and Parts were considerably
higher than yesterday and the fact that
these markets showed gains in the face of
increased shipments from Australia and
Argentine helped Instill confidence Into the
minds of traders here. May opened ib-So
to H4e higher at 98'a06c. while July
was up bo at asu.o. There was an
arlv advance to 88'kQ9o for July on an
active general demand, but the May option
held steady during the first hour. The lead
ing long took advantage ot the advance In
the price of July and sold out a considerable
line. Smaller traders followed the lead and.
In consequence, a drop to 80 occurred.
The downward trend of the Ally delivery
affected May, forcing the price down to
96c. St. Louie houaes covered a big line
ot July during the latter part or the day.
The market responded to the Improved de
mand and prices again reached the top
figures. Some of the advance was subae.
queraly lost on profit taking, but the close
was firm, with May 96c. July had a
net advance or 14ilc, closing at 88s8e
Clearances of wheat and flour were equal
to 239.8W) bushels. Primary receipts were
(xl.TuO bushels, against 624.800 bushels a yeur
ago. Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago re
ported receipts of 44 cars, compared with
fetft cars last week and 429 cars a year ago.
The oorn market was strong, but the
voluzna of business was small, owing to a
lack of offeilngs. The fact that the prin
cipal holder of wheat has taken a aonil-
nent position on ths long ride ot the J orn
market caused the local crowd to favor the
buying side. While there was considerable
long corn on the market at times, an ac
tive demand from several of the larger com
mission houses readily absorbed all offer
ings. Much of the buying waa based on
the supposition that there Is very little
good corn In ths country. An Increased
shipping demand and ntrong foreign mar
kets were additional bull factor. . The
opening on May was 4j"o to S4ic higher
at W'.'iMSc. and after wiling between 61't.c
and 641'ti4c, cloeed at bc. July was up
VHc. closing at 62c. Iocsl receipts were
144 esrs. one of contract grade,
The feature of trading in oats was the
heavy buying of both May and July deliv
eries by ths leading bull houses. Offerings
were email throughout the duy and In con
sequence the market ruled strong. While
the strength In other grains, waa an influ
ence, the greatest strength was derived
m the fvt that the prices early in the
W'k discouraged farmers from marketing
their grain, so receipts are sanin light.
