In tha northwest. The nrmhesTi In
tha foreign market waa partly due to bad
weather reporta from Argentine, but a
cablegram to-a Chicago commission ilrm
from Roaarlo said that the weather waa im-
S roving and that little damnga had ben
on tha wheat erop. . At tha rami time
tha V bull Intereat her manltes.ed a
tendency to dispose of holdlnga. I hi fact
exerted considerable Influence upon amail
holders. Aa a result of tha combination of
circumstance: a good deal of long wheat
came oat and -easier tone developed. May
selling off to- 8lfc(r8Ma,. after opening a
shade lower to a shade higher at 8lc to
llHo. The -high point of tha day was
reached shortly atter the opening, when
May touched 81Hc The market he.d steady
at tha decline for a time, and during the
latter part of the eeralon a better tone was
manifested on reporta of an active export
bualneae. Advlrea from- tha seaboe d
claimed forty-five boat loads had be.n
taken for shipment, with the greater part
of this wheat consigned to Lisbon, i ha

unchanged at SlHftXlttc. Clearances of
wheat and flower were eoual to 2M.S0J bush
els. Primary receipts were 806.9o0 biishels,-

apolis, Duluth' and Chicago reported re
ceipts of 4.MU cars, against tH4 cars last week
and 621' cars a year ago.'
Corn did not hold up aa well aa of lata.
Opening prices were a trifle hither on a
fair commission house demand, due to firm
cables and good export business reported
' yesterday, btit there waa not- much corn
wanted and under scattered selling by local
operatora the market , weakened. Tha
weather continued fine and there were
some messages from the west, mostly from
Nebraska, which stated that the ronds
were In excellent condition for hauling and
that farmers were disposed to roll their
V"'11 Por" a. little mnrereely. After open
V a' shade to VdKc. higher, at 43c to
43 c, May sold between 4;Wo and 43p. los
ing a.t--43He Local receipts were 128 cars,
with 1 one contract grade.
After a steady opening oata eased off In
sympathy with. Cora, on selling; by one or
two commission houses. The larger part
of tbs trading waa of a aralplng nature and
lacked any special features. Local bears
were not Inclined to sell much, owing to
tha continued small receipts, which wou'd
seem to Indicate that tha crop had been
var-eetlmated. Prices showed little change.
May ranging . between 8Go and 3fe3o,

Local receipts were 123 cars.
Hogs were In much smaller supply than
expected and this fact, cotinled with an

CATTLE There wa - not an excesalva
run 4f cattle here this morning, but there
was no improvement In the situation. In
fact, prices were, It anything, a little lower
and trading extremely dull. Packer do
not seem to want fresh supplies, and as a
result .tne price tbey oner are ruinously
low. '
The market-on cornfed steer could riot
be quoted anything but : extremely dull
and lower. Buyers were Indifferent and
would .scarcely, make bid on anything
except a few that just suited their fancy.
Tidy, handy weight cattU, well fattened
and of good quality, they would buy, but
aside from those they d!d not seem to
care whether they get the cattle or not.
Commission men are still advising their
shipper to hold back their - cattle until
after the holiday and give an opportunity
for packeaa to clean ud the surplus meat
they hare on hand, and also to clean up th
poultry on me marxet.
The cow yharket waa also dull and a
little lower. . The. same as with steers the
demand was confined to the choicest grade
and even those were a little lower. The
medium kinda and also common stuff was
very hard to move at ny price. The mar
ket for toe wK 1 tne biggest kind rf a
quarter ' lower, with a good many sales
showing a muoh greater - loss than that
Bulls, veal calves and stags are all
dull and a little lower.
Stockara and feeders were n small Bun-
pfy again tblar morning, and, a the c
niand from the country ha been- fairly
gooa tnis weea, tne maraei waa atenoy
on all desirable arades. Common kinds
were stow but about ateady. Representa

HOGS There was not as heavy a run of
hogs In sight today aa yesterday, end
under the Influence of a good demand the
market ruled active and a little higher
at most point. The advance here amounted
to 647Hc. The long string went at $4.35,
wtth the bulk of all the sales going from
84 3J4 to $4 37Vi. A high a $4 40 wa paid
for hog of gnod quality. Trading wa
fairly active at . the advance, so that the
hulk of the early arrival wa disposed of
in good season
There was vary little change In the mar
ket alt the morning Packer aemed to
want th hogs at the money and as a re
sult tha market held up In good shape.
It Is becoming more evident every day
that packers are getting anxious for mors
weighty hog, and a a result, that, class
la selling to bettor advantage than was th
raae a short tint ago. In fact, hsavy
hogs sell right up to -the top ot the mar-
net, nepreaentauv aaieat

fUlEKP-Th, a verv small run here
today, only five cars being on sale. Packers
all wanted some good stuff, and as a result
the market ou that class rtned active and
steady. Borne yearlinga brought 14.15, ewes
33.60 and fair lambs 34.76. Owing to the
small number on sale the market soon
came to a close. For tne week there ha
not been much change on well fattened
stock. The demand ha been fully equal
to the supply and price generally ateady.
Common and part fat kinds have been
more or leas neglected and have rold at
rather uneven prices, the same as usual.
As compared with a year ago lambs are
16TJ4Cc higher, while ewe and wether are
6094 Too lower.
Very few feeder have arrived thla week
and aa a result the market Is generally
teady. ' ' '
