NEW YORK STOCKS AND BONDS Inorea'.s in Dialing! Acctmpinied bj Efi dencj of Oonipicnons BtriDgli PART OF EARLY GAIN LATtR WIPED OUT General Feelln ea Market is Tbat Effect at Trade loadltloaa Has Beea Dlseoaated and Prices Mill Advance. NEW YORK, Dec. 2-There was a con siderable Increase in the volume of deal ing on the stoca exchange louay, accom panied by a period of conaplcuous strengtn. Dealing in some stocks was in evlueme at ail times and this tendency spread through the market until It became lop heavy and turned downwards, wiping out part of the early gain. An upward spurt in two or three of the industrial specialties at the last partly rallied the market, but realising again met the advance and the closing wss active and Irregular. The conspicuous movements at the last were a Jump of 4c In Colorado Fuel, ic In the Colorado FUel convertible bonus, lc' In sugar and l'Ac In Amalgamated Copper. The fact that there was no news to account tor inese siiuuen juihi ' vated the distrust with which they were regarded by traders who were trying to eii at other iMilnts of the market. The persistent pressure upon rfnmyivni drag upon tn murirv uum i w nvirromi bv a succession of buying movements at other points which gradually dissipated the uneasiness. Buy ing for London account was a factor In tne advance. . . The turn of tne monm reieaaea munrj that market and there waa a more cheer ful feeling In foreign mar nets over uw nect for tvence In the far east. Trade reports of the coal Industry were .,,nr..in. niinr in the Influence of the colder weather and the statement of earn ings of Lehigh Valley for October, show ing an increase in tne surplus ii ,1 v.. ,1 onmnKtll.l of OVBf 81.il0ll.0OO. supplemented Readinga good showing of yesterday. Norfolk & Western made a good showing lor tne same penuu, k.in.j ihn nft coal dealers, except p.nn.iv.ni. That mad's statement for October showed decreases of net for the lines both east and west 01 rmsDurg anu vh. n n. to i he arowtn in operating ex penses. A disposition to reallxe In Louis ville & Nashville was Increased by the decline In net earnings for October shown by Nashville, Chattanooga at ot. xuis. Union Pacific's October statement showed c, i ma in net eumlnss of more than $400,000, thus saving more than half the growtn in gross earnings, uui nn also showed the effect of realising, as did Its subsidiary company. Southern Pacific. The Industrials as a class were higher, and It wss suspected that closing up of short accounts had much to oo wun tnis, espe xioiiv in i nlted Slates Steel Dreferrtd. There is some growtn ot tne aeniirnriu umi nricea of stocks in this class have dis counted about the worst that could happen In the Industrial future, leaving room for some natural rebound from excessive de pression. Mnnev went to 7U. ner cent sgaln today and the banks transferred $460,000 of their reserve to New Orleans without any com pensating advantage in foreign gold en gagement. The opinion Is gaining force that the tightness of foreign money mar kets will probably keep up the money rate here over tne year ano wnatever uvinun of position we may hold in the Interna tional exchanges. The movement of bond prices continued rather Irregular, realising In speculative Issues being In evidence In that market as well as in stocss. toiai sines ui ounus par value were $3,154,000. The table above will show the exact ngures. Trading was not very active, but still there waa very little change In ruling prices.. There were several cars of corn fed steers on sale, but most of them were short fed and warmed up sturr for which the de mand has been very limited. The prices paid were not a great deal different from those In force of late, but at the same time it was very evident that packers pre ferred the westerns to the warmed up" corn cattle. Anything at all good in the way of cornfeda could safely be quoted steady. The cow market also showed very little ensnge rrom yesterday. There was no great amount or snap to tne trade, and In fact the market seemed a little slow, but prices on all grades held lust about steady with yesterday. All the early arrivals were sold In good season. There was not enough change in the prlcea paid for bulls, veal calves and stags to ne wormy or mention. There was not a large supply of stockers and feeders In sight this morning, and as speculators did not have many cattle on hand they were looking tor more at steady prices. The market was not active, but generally steady with yesterday. Common stuff was a little slow, but the prices paid could not be quoted any lower. Western grass beer steers were In small supply and the market held steady. There were so few on sale mat the market soon came to a close. Range cows and western stockers and feedera also commanded gen erally steady prices. Representative sales: BEEF STEERS. At. Pr. No. At. There was considerable unevenness In the prices paid, but as general thins: the best grades were steady to a shade lower, while the general run or both fed stuff and westerns was lofflloc lower than yesterday. Some fed ewes sold today as h an as 13.Z6 and some wetners brought 14.00. Trading was not active, but at the same time the bulk of the desirable grades was , disposed of In fairly good season. The market was hardly as good on feed ers todav as It was yesterday. The best arades sold at about steady prices, but aside from those the tendency was to pound the market a little.
