Frank Ford, the man apprehended at Ar
gentine. Kan., and wanted here foe the.
commission of Innumerable petty crimes, l
known to the police ai the "humorous
burglir." Ford has a peculiar, modus
operandi which he Invariably employ
when doing a Job. For lntnnce, when he
held up Frank P. .Gallagher of Jhe World
Herald last spring, ho covered him with a
large revolver and then calmly snt down
to discus generalities of things worldly,
felling Mr. Gallagher that, he should be
able to enlighten him because-of his voca
tion apd Indicating, that one of his, own
habits, operating -exclusively, at - night,
could not be expicted .ta keep him abreast
df the times. ' 1 '.
Later. Ford called nt the home of Dp.
Burrell. 1BI4 South Thirty-second "trect.
In IKIe er'CHpade lie employed the' home
made dark lantern, which ronsNts of plac
lug a candle In a teapot, characteristic l
his operations. , '
Mrs. burrell saw the llRht of this crude
affair .as It flashed up th stairway and
called out; ,' , ' ...... .
"Who Is there? What do you wnntT'
Walt until I get there.-' replied the un
perturbed marauder, "and I'll ahow you."
:Ford secured a vaiuable gold. watch gnd
several smaller jlecea of Jewelry on the
Hutrrll rad. ' !
Debut at Sonth Omaha, i
Three days later Ford made liia debut In
South Omah. entering the ' home of Dr.
Knsot. llee again he used the canflle-ln-a-tcopot
luntetj) and Jokingly hel4"(he doc
tor tip for a diamond ring and aeveml doll
lars' worth of line jewelry. The most
humorous Incident -of iFord'a. call on- Dr.
F.nso was the careless manner In which
he flouiiwhed the doctor' owft revolver
close to his head and recklessly fingered
Its hair trigger.
.-.Drl Ensor Is something of a sportsman
and Is fond of shontln at email birds. H
tind his revolver fitted with a dellcat halrl
trigger, which mapped from the slightest
pressure.
''That morning' when I woka up feeling
that strange unaccountable fear '.which
conies over -one when In the presence of
danger, this fellow waa sitting on the edge
of the bed and had me covered with my
own. gun,' is the way Dr. Ensor told th
police of Ford'a visit. ':
"I said, 'Whose gun hare you got
there?''" continued the doctor, "and he re
plied, "Don't know; picked It up over there
on tha bureau.'
" 'Be careful with that gun,' 1 said; 'for
It has a hair trigger.'" ;:. '
" 'You're- the one to be careful,' replied
the man, as he stuck the gun wlthirt two
Inches of my face."
Detective Heltf eld, , who waa dispatched
to Argentine to bring Ford back to stand
trial, la expected to arrive in Omaha with
hi man this evenlag .
which displaces th old script ticket also
came In the same' package, and they will
hereafter be Bold In place of the old form.
GOSSIP ON COMMISSION ROW
Three Kind of Italian Engiiah Wa(
. nets tampete with, tha ( all.,
fnralane.
Three kinds of Italian English walnuts
for Omaha to eat this winter. Chile, Gren
oble and Naples nuta they are, and have
been brought to this country regardless of
the contract labor laws to "scab" on the
honest walnut of California. But the west
erners ate o high-priced that they Invite
foreign comietlUon. A shipment of the
Italian mils got here, coming In cases from
Sorrento ar.d'ns far as Chicago In bond.
They have not been seen In this market
before for several years.
The trouble 'In the west is twofold. In
the first place, their is a shortage, but the
principal cause of high price Is the great
reputation the. Californian have acquired
Thla Iihs causedi the demand to Increase
much more rapldiv than the supply and a
s consequence-.there is high money. This
opens the market to the outsiders. The
Chile nut are the smallest, darkest and of
the strongest flavor. Tliey wholesale now
at 13 cents Yhe Grenoble nut Is equal to
California second grade and Is hard shell.
The Naples nut, however. Is equal. It la
said, to the best California. Is large, has
a soft shell ami sell at the first price 16,
cent.
'Chriatmaa troea are sprouting and a
J oung forest of ttiem- will be flourishing or)
the row next. wee.k.'Jf .llie cfop reports may
be believed. A few specimens have been in
for several week taking orders and th
bunch Is about: due. .The trees are belug
trimmed up now In Wisconsin, so that
they will be . pruce when they reach
Omaha. Some lira-will be Bent-here alio,
but furs are, not so 'much the fashion this
year. They are, however, the best tree ta
keep perishable ChrUtma presents from
freezing." ' .. '
The-apple whlcji are to fill the bill and
the mouths of such eater a pay cash
during the early months are about all her
now. One commission house has received
this year 20.000 barrels, so that the general
public had better get bury. The apples are
high .this year, hut this 1 largely due to
the great foreign idemand, which exceeds
that of any previous year.

TH E story opens during the second month
after the death ot King Francis of
France, when Mary Queen of Scots, a
widow, of nineteen, is still with Catherine de

the Earl of Bothwell, who gives her his page Des-Essars.'- Spurred on
by her brother, Lord Tames Stuart, she leaves France for Scotland. .
At. Edinburgh, after a disheartening reception by the Scots, the Lord
of Hiintly presents himself with his sons, George, John and Adam for the
first of whom he desires to arrange a marriage with Queen Mary. There
. also John Knox comes into her life, preaches against her, dubs her The
Honeypot," and finally becomes a valued adviser. Her brother, LorJs
James and Robert Stuart, present themselves, and she appoints as sec
retary, Mr Maitland,: former secretary to her mother, the late Que.cn.
Bothwell pays. court and piques her by. his manner. Lord George

and t adviser, marries the Lord of Semohill, and during her
absence frbhrcourt, Queen. Mary falls under the influence of Darnley,
showing plainly to the whole court that she loves him. A8ecret .
marriage is brought about by the clever scheming of her brother James
and Signor David, the Italian secretary, and without preparation the
ceremony is performed by a strange priest in the chapel at Werriyss, at
the end of a masquerade ball, and after midnight. - :
'Darnley, after an illness during which the Queen. nurses -him, .
thereby causing much scandal in the court, asks to be created Duke of"
Rothesay, a title for kings' sons only. This the council refuses the
Queen. Letters come from Elizabeth, who now disapproves the pro

to return to England. . This they refuse io do.. The Earl of Moray
attempts to deny hia knowledge of the. Queen's secret marriage, and is
expelled from the codndl. He leaves for Argyll. ; Bothwell, now in
