CHICAGO. Nov. i:.-WfaknpM In foreign
markets chuhiiI renewed Helling In tne
wheat pit today and further losc were
sustained, Drrnnbrr closing r. iwer. De
ri mber corn was iff fa'fcc, oats were down
V&lc, with provision eHHler, the J.inunry
product tloelng unchanged to 7VfcC lower.
Foreign wheat market showed the effect
of the severe decline here yesterday and
ruled lower, ami the depression abroad
brought out heavy selling ot both Decem
ber anil May deliveries at the opening. lc
ctmber wan unchanged to Vc lower at (OMi
(hiti'HiO at the start, i hut after se ling at ibu
the sentiment chnngod and the market
(rave promise of a material advance, com
misslon houses and shorts being active buy
era at the lower price. Offering w e ie
good and with prospect of bad weather In
thn near future the market aoon developed
considerable strength. December advancing
to Wfcc within the tlrst hour. Later the
demand dropped off BJid with a disposition
on the part of local traders to sell the mar
ket turned weak. Influenced by declines in
all outride markets. December sold off to
7r.io ajid closed at 78c. a loss of Sc for the
day. Clearances of wheat and llour were
equal to 797.SOO bushols. Primary receipts
were 1,293,100 bushe'. against 1,430.800 bush
els a year ago. Minneapolis nnd Duluth
reported receipts of (pi9 cars, which, with
local receipts of 132 cars none of contract
grade made totnl receipts for the three
points of Ml cars, against 1.178 cars last
week and 1,088 cars a year ago.
Corn was easier at the opening, due to
decidedly weak rabies and many of the
leading bear operators were still on the
imlllng side. Later, however, December
shorts bought quite freely on predictions
of unfavorable weather and there was
enough buying by scalpers to cause a
fair rally In that delivery, but liberal
Belling of May by commission houses acted
aa a drag on the market. Toward the end
of the session the weakness in wheat was
felt In the corn pit and muny of the early
buyers turned sellers and prices declined,
the close being near the bottom. December
ranged between 411c and 42UVtc and
closed if,o lower at 41c. Iocal receipts
were 203 cars, with 15 of contract grade.
The tendency In the oats pit was to fol
low the action of other grains and the early
market ehowed firmness, but heavy liqui
dation late In the day, due to the weakness
In wheat and corn, caused a severe decline,
December cosing Tvftjc. lower at 33c, after
selling between 32"6c and 84V4C Local re
ceipts were 236 cars.
Provisions were easier on scattered sell
ing early In' the day, but there was enough
demand from small packers and local
shorts to prevent any big decline. The
break In grains late in the day had a de-
y rearing Influence and January pork closed
'o lower at 111.55. January lard waa un
changed at $6.87M. with rths off Bo to lfi.05.
Kstimated receipts for tomorrow: Wheat,
121 cars; rxrn, 240 cars; oats, 165 cars; hogs,

LABOR SITUATION AFFECTS MARKET
Saarar Beeorltlea Make a how of

Trade from Cobta Reci
procity Treaty.
NEW TORK, Nov. 12 Pennsylvania nnd
United States Steel preferred divided atten
tion and a good degree of Influence In to
day's stock market.! The dealing were not
In such overwhelming proportions in either
stock as for the last several days. Penn4
sylvania was weak front the outset, but
showed stubborn resistance in the neigh
borhood of 118. The price rallied again and
again from that figure, or slightly Tielo It,
and the greater part of the trading in the
stock up to late In the day was at close to
112. Its various rallies did not carry It
quite back to last night's price. The con
test In support of the stock seemed to be
abandoned after enormous absorption and
the price was carried to with a rally
at the close to 111. The efforts to support
the stock were at first to strengthen United
Ptites ftee stocks and later United States
Steel bonds. The formal announcement
that It had determined not to cut the price
ot steel p. ales and structural forms was a
help. The rumor was circulated so freely
for the nut-nose of helnina the stock that
some $16,000,000 had been taken for Invest
ment by one of the wealthiest and most
conservative Insurance companies. Rumors
were also circulated that prices of struc
tural steel, etc., would be cut In spite of
the decision to the contrary. United Stntes
Steel preferred retained Its advance owing
to these rumors.
The outlook in the labor world was re-
frarded as threatening, and reports of rlot
ng with the Chicago street railway strike
was in circulation. Reports of a cut In
wages at Fall River also had an effect.
The reported Intention of the Steel corpora
tion to retrench their outlay for wages
$15,000 000, or 10 per cent, and the serious
situation growing out of the coal strike
In Colorado were added features In shaping
sentiment on t"hls subject. The show of
strength In Sugar was due to hopes of
benefit from a Cuban reciprocity treaty.
Amalgamated Copper was another strong
feature, without explanation.
Additional engagement of $2,000,000 for
shipment to New York became known, part
of which was already on the way, but not
heretofore announced. The Bang or n.ng
land refrained from advancing its discount
rates so 'that a further Inflow of gold Is
sf! likely.
The bond market closed steadv, but not
much above the' lowest. Total sales of
bonds, par value, $1,300,000. United States

CATTLE There was not an excessive run
of cattle here this morning, but aa prices
at this point are claimed by packers to be
out of 'Ine with other markets buyers were
Inclined to be bearish and as a result trad
ing waa rather slow. As compared with
yesterday, though, the change in prices
was not at all radical.
There were several more car of com fed
steers on sale and while some sales looked
about steady with yesterday the gen erf
market was slow and a little lower. The
market, in ract has been going downward
all the week and va'ues are now right
around 163Sc lower than they were a
week ago. Something strictly fancy like
the $5.30 cattle that sold late yesterday are
perhaps not quite that much off. Cattle
of that kind, however, are so scarce that
It Is hard to tell what the market on
them Is.
The cow trade wns also slow this morn
ing with prices steady to a little lower than
yesterday. There were close to 80 earn In
cluded In the receipts and as the market
was s'ow It waa late before a clearance
was made. Aa compared with the close of
last week prices are now fully ss low, the
advance of the first of the week having
beer. lost.
Bulls were a little lower this morning.
Gross bulls are pelllns- around tl.ROrjfl 90 and
corn feds go from $2.00 to $2.60 with an
occasional choice bull ss high as $3.00. Vea!
calves held about steady.
The downward course In the price of
feeders continued today'and trading was
slow. 3tie market could best be described
bv calling It slow and weak or lOffflSc lower
than !sst week. Heavy cattle seem to have
suffered the greatest decline, as the de
mand in now largely for yearlings.,
The western grass beef steers that had
any kll. to them sold readily at steadv
prlcea. The Inferior graden, though, uch
an are neither good feeders or good killer
were slow. As compared with last week
there does not seem to have been much
change In the prices of western ranger.
Grass cows were slow today nnd steady
to a nhnde lower and stockers and feeder
were dull and wnk. Renrenentatlvo sales:

SHEEP There was a moderate run of
sheep and lambs here this morning and as
the demand from all sources waa In good
shape the general market ruled active and
fully steady on all grades.
The supply of killers has been rather
short In spite of the liberal receipts. Owing
to the fact that packers have had large
orders to fill the tendency of prices has
been upward all the week and prices tndav
are right around 25c higher than those In
force at the close of last week. Common
kinds of course may not have advanced
quite that much.
Feeders have been selling to good ad
vantage the last two days. On Tuesday
the heavy run caused quite a slump in
prices, but yesterday and today the loss of
the first part of the week haa been prac
tically regained and there Is now very
little change In prices from ttjose paid a
week ago.

GOSSIP ON COMMISSION ROW
Potatoes Are Crowding Into the
Market Like People at Brook.
lyn Bridge. (
The crowds that gather at the western
end of the Brooklyn bridge every evening
are nothing to the crowd of potatoes that
are coming to Omaha every day to Increase
the population that la, the weight of tho
population. From Montana, Colorado,
Idaho and the Dakotas they are hurrying
here so as to arrive before the cold
weather and snows, which rr.eke It Im
possible for them to travel. While this
stocking up Is going on wholesale prices
rule at 75 to 86 cents. Ten cars were on
the Omaha tracks W'ednestlay, nnd this 1
aatd to be an average.
Two cars of New York apples have Just
arrived In bulk, having agreed to put them
selves to the inconvenience of traveling
without barrels from motives of charity
charity to the dealers. There Is a barrel
famine In the apple countries, anyhow.
These apples are designated for the wagon
trade. This la conducted from house to
house by men who get their fruit directly
from the cars. 1
Florida oranges and Spanish grapes ar,
In. The Malagas came In for business
two days ago. They are very reasonable
and will sell wholesale at from $5 to $6.60
per barrel of from forty to fifty pounds.
They are snugly packed In cork scraps
and are here for the winter.
The Florida are of the "Bright" family
and are starting in on their Jobbing career
atr$4 a box. They believe in advertising
and want to arrange with the orange eat
ers for an opening day a day when as
many oranges aa possible will bo opened
They are said to be sweeter thati the Mexi
cans and to have fewer seeds. California
Loranges are giving notice of early maturity.
Yesterday a car of them on their way e;ift
waa Inspected Tiers by their local op nt.
Some of them are a trifle green, but" tin
moneyed eastern market must have Hi"
California navels regardless. They will
not open up In Omaha at present.
