A small but enthusiastic crowd of spec
tat jrs witnessed a race at the Council
Blufls mile track yesterday afternoon be

Bran dels and the Andersen-Mlllard com
pany. The race was a contest between
steam and gasoline propelled machines and
resulted in a victory lor the latter in en
eight-mile contest, in fifteen minutes and
ten seconds.
Mr. Brandeis' machine was a Peerless,
two-cylinder gasoline, and was driven by
Charles Btutx. The Andersen-Mlllard com
pany machine was a White steam touting
oar, with steam compound engine, and waa
driven by Frank Decker. Owing to the
inability of the chauffeur to develop a suf
flniwit amount of ijn the race lost that
Interest which attaches to cloeoljr contested
events.
The two machines were gotten under wny

Insofar as anything like a contest was
concerned, was over, for the gasoline ma
