ing month of the year previous. The gross
receipts were $4,534,681.73, being a decrease
from last year's of $J79,!SS.76, and the ex
penses, Including the taxes, were $2,598.

Lucas la Richardson' Place.
William Lucas, present assistant superin
tendent of the Pullman company at thl
place, ha been promoted to be superin
tendent to fill the vacancy caused by the
death of 3. F. Richardson. Mr. Lucns ha
been In the employ of the company for the
last fourteen years and has tilled almost
every position with the company. He was
born In East St. Louis and first became
connected with the Pullman Interest In
March, 18H, when he moved to this city to
accept the position of storekeeper. Ho only
remained in this capacity for a few months,
until he was nrade a clcik In the office and
later a ticket agent. He held this last of
fice for ten years, or until it was abolished,
and was mad assistant superintendent of
this district In June, 1001. The many friend
of Mr. Lucas will he glad to hear of hi
promotion, aa It was one which they be
lieve to be deserving. The position of as
sistant superintendent will be filled by B. B.
Pewcy, who Is being brought here from
Minneapolis. Mr. Dewey was formerly an
agent for the company In that city.
