play for the western amateur golf cham
pionship brought Ideal weather for golfers
and the day's, play showed It. Tha morn

testing. In the afternoon the matches be
gan to settle down to real work and tonight
only sixteen contestants are left.
As was predicted by the sharps, the
Egan boys of Chicago and Louis James,
tha national amateur champion, stand

and S. W. Stlckney of St. Louis dangerous
rivals. Many consider Byers the best
