Capping a climax of victories unprecedented In the history of tha American turf, Africander proved himself today the greatest -year-old thor oughbred of his generation. He has sur passed the triumphs of Hanover and Her- mls, beaten the best hanulcap horses and stamped his superiority among his contem poraries in decisive style. He won the Lawrence Realization stakes at one and five-eighths miles at Sheepshead Cay after a battle with probably the best collection of 8-year-olds mat ever strug gled for that classic prise. He overcame speed, courage and endumnce In his ad versaries, and In spite ot misfortune after misfortune In his own battle for the front, sprang to ths lead In the last few yards, after racing at a speed that broke two re cords before the winning post waa reached and set a new mark for future Realization winners. Africander won by a head from Golden Maxim, which was two lengths in front of Savable. Whorler followed four lengths back. Short Hose was fifth, a length and a half away and twelve lengths in front of Black Hussar. Cardinal Wolaley was a sixteenth of a mils behind the winner. v Time lets Haw Record. To a prompt start Cardinal Wolsley with Gannon up was quickest away, but Im mediately went back, and Golden Maxim, ridden by Cochran, took the lead as the field swept down the futurity schute. Whorler, Odom up, carried Whitney A Duryea'a colors close behind, and the yel low and blue of John.' A. Drake showed Savable In third place. They seemed to be going easily but the pace throughout was terrific. Africander was fifth passing the stand, but moved up on the turn into the back stretch and ran close lapped on Sav able, who was third. Odom made his run with Whorler nearlng the far turn, but Golden Maxim rattled along, always hold ing the Brookly Derby winner vsafe. De spite the killing pace he had set through out. Golden Maxim turned Into the strotch still going easily and a length ahead of Savable. On the rail, lapped by Africander. Golden Maxim went wide and O'Neil tried to take Savable through, hut the leader closed In sharply and cut him off. O'Neil pulled to the outside and made his bid. Savabfe responded with a splendid burst of speed and looked a winner for a moment. Then Golden Maxim drew away. Darts Ahead la Final Yards.
