(ra.ro.) Omaha won th third game of the
eii thla afternoon la easy style. The
final score vat t to 3 In favor of the vis
itor, who won tha came by their splendid
batting and clever fielding. Throughout
tha entire game the Nebraskans fields!
perfectly, except for a fumble by Hickey
which oould scarcely ha railed an art or.
The work of tha De Moines teim waa a
decided contrast. Five errors, all of which
helped to swell Omaha s total, were made
by the locals. Two of these were by Mar
shall and two by Durkee, both of whom
are considered sure men. Marshall, how
ever, redeemed himself In the seventh In
ning with a long drive for a home run over
the center field fence. By tha end of the
fourth Inning Omaha had the game cinched
and Des Molnea waa unable to overtake
tha lead. One run was made In the second
on a bad throw by Durkee. rive hits and
an error by Clarke in the third netted three
runa. In tha fourth two mora were chalked
up. Des Moines made one each In the fifth,
sixth and seventh. Omaha mads one l.
both the seventh and ninth. Umpire Mes
meT failed to show uj), so Companion and
Fohl umpired the game. Mesmer's where
about Is a mystery. : Ha waa her yester

NEWPORT, R. I., July 2.-For the first
time In' the hlBtory of American W-footcrs
fatal accident occurred today. Carl B.
Olsen, a seaman on the old cup derenner
Columbia, was washed from the bowsprit
Just before the yacht reached tha first turn
In today's race and was drowned.
When the yacht lifted from a big wave
Into which It had plunged, Olsen waa seen
almost under the stem, clinging to the bob-
stuy, but before- aid could ba given him
the sloop dipped Into another comber and
he wa not seen afterward.
Captain Miller of Columbia thinks Olsen
was struck by the overhang of th craft
a It cam smashing down and knocked
nsenslhle. Columbia came Into the wind
instantly. Two life buoys wer thrown
Into the wator and the tender launched rs
quickly as possible. Two men Jumped Into
the tender and rowed 'round for twenty
minutes ready to pick Olsen up If he came
to the surface. Three sailor swarmed up
the mast and looked for soma sign of the
unfortunate man, but without success.
New liacri Cancelled.
At S tonight th commute posted tha
following bulletin at the club station:
The Newport series for W-footers will
not b finished. Ther will be no more
racing until the yachts start on the New
York Yacht club's cruise.
Today's race wa also marred by a mis
hap to Constitution. Boon after the start
It carried away the Jaw of it gaff and
the great steel spar, swinging forward,
buckled In the center.
Tn main Bail wa ripped clear across
several time and rendered practically
worthless. It waa the best mainsail the
boit had spread this season and th third
that had been tried this year.
Reliance received th severest buffeting
It ha had sine being launched. Th sea
waa terrible for racing yacht and when
tha yacht reached It mooring It ws no
ticed that It had a big dent five feet long
In th plating close to tha waterllne on
th port bow. Th Indentation waa similar
to that Constitution sustained two year
ago.
Reliance sailed splendidly. The wind blew
mora than twenty mile an hour and all
thre yacht found they could not even
carry small working topsails to windward,
so thy went oft under th three lower
sails only. It.wa tha stlffest brees snd
hardest sea that th boats have been out
In sine th season's rsclng began, and had
ther bn no accident the record of a
thirty-mile triangular course would have
been cut down considerably. As It was
Reliance with no craft to push It and with
only a No. 1 Jib topsail hoisted, In ad
