'Ihe main Influence In the wheat pit to
day was the weather map, and on reports
of rain at Winnipeg and at various points
In North Dakota hud Minnesota mere was
a heavy selling pressure with the opening.
July VoHc lower at Hrfiii and September
a shade high, r to SWtQ lower at i9yi
'i9-c. The, liquidation continued durl..
the ilrst hW In which time the market
had declined materially, July selling off to
U"iC and September to 7So. Toward noon
a good denmnd developed on reports th.it
rains wire very much needed throughout
the northwest, the showers last night hav
ing been of light tharcater. They were
st 1 .i 1 1 fair buying orders from the southwest
and, with higher prices at St. Louis, Min
neapolis and Duluth, the market quickly
responded and became quite strong. Trad
ing was heavy throughout the session.
There was renewed liquidation within the
Inst half hour and July closed W lower lit
2c. after selling up to 83c. September
elosrd at WKti80c. a gain of c, after
touching IW,c. Clearances of wheat and
flour were rnuat to 1S0.0W bu. Brrwlstreets
reported exports of wheat and flour for the
we.k of J.MX.IW). against 3.b47,00ii . week
ago. Primary receipts were 69,700 bu.,
compared with rm.Soft bu. a year ago. Min
neapolis and Pu'.uth reported receipts of
til cars, which, with local receipts of 22
cars, none of contract grnde, made total
receipts for three poln'.s of 314 cars, sgalnst
278 cars last wee!, i.nd :". cars a year ago.
Corn sympathised with wheat and the
enrlv weakness In the latter market
broupht out considerable liquidation, while
the more favorable weather conditions also
Bided In bringing out Felling orders. There
was little corn wanted except by shorts,
who covered early on the decline. With the
recovery In wheat the corn market ad
vanced and much of the early loss was re-
f allied. The sentiment was still bullish on
he crop prospect. After ranging between
rnc and Kl'sc, .Inly closed at Bl'- c, a net
e of Hff-V- 8ptembr was off NffHc.
ranging between firtHc and 51c. Local re
'c. ipts were 5M1 cars, with 40 of contract
grade. .
There was an urgent de-nand for July
oats from shorts at the sturt and the
price of the delivery was very erratic, op
ening from c lower to lc higher at 43
fi44'r. The demand, however, was soon
satisfied and prices became more settled.
Other months were- comparatively stea ly
with light tradli-pr. Julv closed He lowe
st 43c. after ranging between 42'jc and
44U.Q. while September was off Kic. clos
ing at S1t434Nc. after selling between 34V4C
and 34V. " Local reorlp:s were ISO cars.
Provisions were quite firm at the open
ing. Influenced by the better tone of the
hog market, but the wenkness In grains,
together with heavy liquidation and an
exceedingly light demand, canned a severe
break In prices, and the market ruled weak
the greater part of the day. Pit traders
who bought on the recent decline were
the best pellera. while the buying was
' scattered, but mostly for outside account.
September pork closed at a loes of 65c at
' tl8.no, September lard was off YlVfC at
' JH 42S. while ribs were down 20c, closing
at $H.RT. .

Stock exchange was cheerful, but quiet,
operators being abaorbed In the conclusion
of the, settlement. The Influence of the
withdrawal of Herman gold from the Hunk
of England yesterday was not very marked,
as the action taken was thought to be
probable when the Hank of England's rale
was reduced. Consols weie til in, Amer
icana were dull and the movement had no
significance. Prices hardened later and
olosed firm. Canadian Pacific was firm on
excellent traffic returns and denials of rate
cutting. The amount of bullion taken Into
the Bank of England on balances today
was 200,000.
PARIS. June 26. Prices on the bourse
today oened Arm, except French rentes,
the weakness of which subsequently af
fected the whole market. At the close
stocks generally were weak. Three per
cent rentes, 9bf 60c for the account; ex
change on London, 25f 18c for checks.
BERLIN, June 26. Prleea on the iwurse
today were firm and some specialties were
higher, partly owing to the rumors of
the fusion of several coal companies ind
predictions of an Improvement in the Amer
ican Iron market. Exchange on Lond in,
20 marks 401 pfga for checks. Discount
rates, short bills. 2 per cent; three
months, 8 per cent.
NEW YORK STOCKS AND BONDS.
Transactions Minute, Fluctuations
Practically Net on Stagnant Market.
NEW YORK, June 26. Dealing In stocks
was somewhat smaller and the uuctuallons
were even narrower than yesterday. With
the cesxatton of the liquidation In United
States Steel second 6s the activity of the
bond market also fell oft to nominal pro
portions. Even the usual Friday tendency
to close outstanding contracts and get
away to the country for Saturday, which
gives an occasional Impetus to Friday
business during the summer season, failed
to make an impression on the seml-stagna-tlon
of the market. There was as little re
sponse to the seemingly favorable news of
the day as there was yesterday to the
rather unfavorable condl.lons. The whole
market for stocks seemed to be a mere
feeble echo of the active speculation In
the cotton and cereal markets. What
strength was shown for stocks was associ
ated with the reaction In wheat and corn.
Reports were circulated that corn was mak
ing rapid progress and that showers in
the northwest were relieving the need of
the spring wheat for rain. It was evident
that the movement of prices In the grain
market was highly speculative and specu
lators acted on these Indications with
great caution. But operators were equally
cautious In following any other Indications.
There la a hope entertained that last week's
x:t,6lO,(8iO shortage in llie nanK statement,
as compared with the known movements
of money, will be made good in this week's
statement under the aversge system. The
late rush to get in subscriptions for the
new Pennsylvania stock made an Impres
sion, however, on the money market this
afternoon, putting up the call loan rate to
8 per cent. Next week's preparations for
tho semi-annual settlements are also ex
pected to Increase the activity In the money
market. Of the day's special movements
that In Colorado Fuel was connected with
a rumor of a new bond issue and the stock
recovered with a denial of the rumor.
United States Cast Iron Pipe preferred
sold off 5 points from the preceding sale,
presumable on account of the petition for
a receiver. Amalgamated Copper rose
nearly a point In the last dealings on re
ports of more favorable conditions In trade.
Pennsylvania sold at 123. lowering Its rec
ord for the movement by . There were
buying Orders In the market for scores of
thousands fit shares ntli'3. tut the market
for the stock above that level was dull
with the rest of the market. Considerable
curlosltv exists regarding the action of
the stock when' the subscription rights
have closed and the supposed interest of
the underwriting syndicate In supporting
the price has censed. -

bunches of sheep and lambs In the yards
this morning and the quality of those that
did arrive was rather Inferior. That being
the case It could not be said that a test of
?j rnarl,et was made. It was very
evident from the way packers arted that
they did not care for common stuff, but
'"'y claimed they wanted good killers,
t hlcago has been going down at a rapid
rate, and the westerns that have arrived
here have sold 15425o lower than at the

market lower, but Just how much the de

receipts cannot be told.

CATTLE There was a very light run of
cattle here today, so that prices Improved
again and went a long way toward making
up for the disastrous break In prices on
Tuesday and Wednesday. Trading waa ac
tive from start to tinlsh and tne lew cattle
on sale were soon out of first hands.
There were not tnougn beef steers
offered to fill packers' orders and as a re
sult the market was active and generally
a dime higher. The quality of the cattle
today was hardly up to the usual standard
and for that reason the market on paper
scarcely shows the full amount of the ad
vance. The Improvement In prices yester
day and today takes the market very near
back to where it was at the close of last
week, but as compared with Monday of
this week the market is still lOSjloc lower.
The cow market was also active and
stronger so far as the better grades were
concerned and such kinds are little lower
than they were a week ago. The grassers
were a little easier to dispose of today
than they were yesterday, but the market
could not be quoted any higher. All the
buyers are afraid to take hold of the grass
stock. It seems, as It kills out so unevenly
that they cannot tell much about what
they are getting. They have been going
down hill at a rapid rate all the week at
all markets, but owing to the uneveness
in the market it Is difficult to tell Just what
the decline amounts to.
Bulls, veal calves and stags sold at Just
about steady prices today. Oood fat bulls
sell freely at fully teady prices, but grass
bulls are In poor demand and lower, the
same as grass cows. ...
There were not enough stockers and feed
ers In the yards to make a test of the situ
ation, but it Is safe to say that not many
were wantea, aa me iew ui um inn
were slow sole and weak. Representative
sale.'
